Great classic, I've played too but really need to work on more! Thanks for sharing and inspiring me to get back to working on my music.

Good arrangement of a song I used to perform using a jazzed up, bluesy style on my Yamaha S-950. Very close to the Ella Fitzgerald version, but her rendition was way too slow for dancing, so I jazzed it up a bit, which made a huge difference.

Thanks for sharing,

Gary cool

Where’s the solo coming from? Did you overdub that later?

I’m a fan of Miles’ version from the late 50’s (I think that’s when he did it). Some eerie chording going on in it…

He recorded the melody separately, I was wondering myself! Someone asked on youtube and he answered in the comments. Sounds great!

I think if I were videoing, I might video the solo rather than the backing, but maybe that wasn’t technically possible. Thanks for clearing it up.

I recently watched a Ketron Event demo where loops of recorded sax solos followed the live played chords. I found it very difficult to understand the point of the feature, and from an audience perspective it felt very disconnected. The minute the audience sees you not playing the solo, they tend to assume that EVERYTHING is prerecorded and you aren’t playing anything at all.

Maybe in a studio or at home it doesn’t matter, but on stage you need the audience to connect with you, to feel that it’s you playing (after all, that’s what they paid to see!) and an unplayed in your face solo is the fastest way to show them you’re not..! 🎹😎

I agree with your last post, Diki, I found it awkward watching it, took me a bit to figure out what was going on because I was expecting to 'see' the melody. Sounded good, though, good playing.
