A friend of mine brought his psr1000 over for me to look at. It won't remember registrations once you turn it off. I used to see this on computers when the battery wore out. I took it apart but couldn't find any battery. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The keyboard only saves the last RGT used after switching off.
I keep all my Registrations on USB and just load as required.

That’s a 21 year old arranger. Things have progressed a bit since then!

i had a psr1000. if i remember correctly , registrations have to be saved to disk . i put a usb emulator in mine and saved my registrations and songs all on one flash drive. but seem to remember that there is a user registration space in the keyboard of around 1.5 mb. i would check the manual online. could also be a processor or motherboard issue.

I set up 8 registrations (right hand voices) for my friend and it worked for years. He became ill and didn't use the 1000 for over a year. When he went back to it the registration voices were gone. He brought it to me to put them back in and it will work until you turn it off. When you power back up they are gone. For most of us this wouldn't be a problem but for my friend who is 80 and in poor health it is a big problem. I believe there is a battery or capacitor that keeps the memory when turned off.

I agree Tom. If you can get a Yamaha tech to share a factory SERVICE manual (not the Owners manual) there is probably a self-test to check the health of the battery, and maybe even instructions on how to change it. No doubt some disassembly will be required ;-)

Hi.
Most likely there is a tiny backupbattery at the motherboard, and sometimes they are soldered and not that easy to replace.
The Servicemanual is to find at PSR Tutorial too, hopefully it's OK to paste the link without any risk to be banned there or here:

I took a read of the service manual. I could have missed it, but I see no reference to any battery. Most likely a capacitor should keep enough charge on the memory to stop it dying, but has likely deteriorated over time.

As an alternative suggestion, maybe he could put a UPS on it (and any other music/computer gear he uses) in case of a power outage, and simply never turn it off?

It’s not like it draws much current, wouldn’t cost more than pennies a day to keep it switched on.

His main problem is, putting it in to a repair tech to sort the problem out might cost more than either finding another PSR1000, or even something FAR more modern and capable, with USB backup of the memory. Cheapest solution I can think of is simply to leave it on 24/7!

Gunner, Thanks for the link to the service manual. I went through the entire parts list and schematic and couldn't find any listed battery. The memory must be kept using a capacitor. Thanks for the help.
