Been following Clarke since the mid 60's. He was with the Craig Hunley trio, I think. He was so small (maybe 13?) that the bass was extended in front of him, to to about 3 feet.

Saw the last Return to forever concert in Lexington about 1975. The band came to the after hours place I worked (the Sportsman Lounge) for a late breakfast.

Played a battery powered Alembic bass. Had a 2 hour battery life. He had it rigged with AC power...a big long power chord.

One of the best players (after Ray Brown, of course) ever!

Here they are in 1976. And Stanley is playing that Alembic you mention.

I saw them when that same lineup reunited in 2008. The show was unbelievable.
