Yamaha touch screen SX900/SX700 vs old S series ....?
although the newer touch displays are more high tech on the sx series, genos, or whatever after a while yesterday playing the sx900 modx, montage, etc, it gets kind of confusing to get around vs the older displays on the S series units from just a few years ago
that you manually got around on using buttons which
personally prefer while playing live...S970 was my favorite display
How about your preference and I mean on any keyboard?..

I played with the SX-900 for three days, not at all what I expected. For a touch screen, there was not enough real estate for my pudgy fingers to hit the icons accurately. Additionally, I was not at all impressed with some of the OS changes, though minor, to me, they tended to make the navigation a bit more cumbersome.

Consequently, I stuck with my S-950 and damned glad I did. It's a real workhorse of an arranger keyboard, does more things than anyone can possibly think of doing and the navigation is easy-peasy, especially when transitioning from one song to the next, even when using a combination of the MFD and registrations.

My experiences are on Roland keyboards (arrangers).
E-600,E50,E60,E80, Va7, and G70
These are the touch screen models.

I also have experience with the button type OS of G series,BK series and EA7.

Although the Roland button models work well, the touch screen models are far superior for speed and ease. And combination models like on the G70 are unbeatable..

Touch screens are the way to go.

Touch screen on Ketron SD is by far the best I've had. And I've had them all.
We tend to like what we are used to having, and it sometimes takes time to adjust to new innovations, even when they are big improvements.

I agree-the PA900 won me over. However, I still prefer to touch a parameter and use the dial to change the value rather than do it on the screen.

I use a stylist when working with my Sx900. Same with my iPad.

I like the touch screens.

Found when I had my PA4x, and then played the psr s950, I kept tapping the s950 screen. Used to take a few seconds to realise I had to use buttons.

Touch screens tend to spoil us.

+1! Just like our tablets and phones... I prefer to use the touch screens on my arranger too. Very happy with the implementation on both the Yammie and the Korg.

Touch screens are just ok for certain things
but nothing can replace Tactical Sliders and Buttons during live play imo.

Agreed.
The SX900 is a great kb and fun to play and experiment with. But I don't feel comfortable taking it out on a job. The touch screen is fine for my home playing, but different enough from previous models I can't get where I need to go as quickly as using the buttons. The process of creating registration banks and registrations also seems more complicated than on previous models. Maybe I will gig with it in the future, but for now the S970 travels with me.

Eddie sorry to hear that, ....I would have expected by now after a few months you would have the Sx900 perfected to gig with for sure utilizing all of it's features. IMO you need to actually gig with it a few weeks to get the experience needed to make it work don't you think....I know under this containment at home that hasn't happened yet. I wish you good luck.

Took a while, but after a few days of using the SX-900 touch screen in combination with buttons, it's became quite easy to navigate. Now after a few months, I couldn't go back to all buttons.

Eddie, I understand, it is a different animal, you must think out of the box. Being a home player there on need to get to the next song quickly.

My enjoyment is making the Sx900 sound like a real band. The keyboard is filled with options. My latest find is controlling the pads with regs. I select the pads want; #1 Reg, the volume is at zero. #2 reg not only changes whatever – it also brings the pad volume higher, changing the effect of the style.

Another way to enjoy my keyboard, creating the band’s different emotions from my imagination. (nice)
Life is good, John C.

Hi,
might just take a bit of time to get used to it.

I sold all mine, so had no choice but to learn it. Haha
There again, it’s for home use only, so if I press a wrong icon , no harm done.
