The AD at a high end AL facility where I perform once or more each month called me and suggested I play outside the front entrance where people can sit outside or hear me inside as to the right of the entrance is the dining room and straight on in is the atrium where I usually play. There people can even listen going up some floors as they do when I play inside. I will probably be under the front overhang.

I had thought of this possibility but had not yet pursued the idea. As you can expect she said the residents are going nuts with the lockdown.

Should be fun and safe for all.

Scott

Florida seems to be much less strict with their interpretation of "shelter in place". My parents are down there now, and Mom went to a CRAFT SHOP TODAY to buy yarn. WTAF????? I guess each state makes their own determinations of severity, and restrictions that apply, but geeze - it seems the rest of the country is restricted to food shopping and medical visits, and my crazy mom is buying craft items.

I'd do it. You'll be outside and not in contact with anyone. The virus doesn't travel through the air unless somebody sneezes on you.
The residents will love it and you'll be doing a service while earning some money.
Have them pay you electronically if possible. If not wash just wash your hands after you handle the money or paper.

I performed outdoors many times at an upscale retirement community, and while they had seating outdoors as well for the residents, they could clearly hear be indoors at the adjacent 60 seat nite club of the facility. I performed close to the entrance, which was a large, double door entry, and the outdoor seating was on the adjacent patio where the residents were at least 50 or more feet away. Fortunately, I had the Bose L1 system while reached everyone in the vicinity.

Good luck, Scott,

Gary cool

Seems safe to me too., especially with the warm Florida air temperature. Just my uninformed opinion. I’m no medical doctor but I play one on the internet smile

I've heard the exact opposite on the news ... if you can believe the news.

Dave, at best, a sneeze can carry the bugs about 6 to 8 feet, after which time, if outdoors and exposed to sunlight, the UV rays would quickly kill them. This is, and has been well documented for many, many years. Those bugs just don't float around for eternity.

We're talking about people being very spread out over a large indoor and outdoor area. I will not allow anyone to get close to me and I'm sure the residents have already been warned about physical distancing. I am not concerned in the least about my health or that of the residents in this case.

Other than that we are having our groceries delivered by Winn Dixie or Publix. With Walmart we are using their pickup service.

The only other time I'm going out is to get prescriptions or drive through food.

I will cancel all medical lab work and any other unnecessary activities.

Unfortunately, at the moment it looks like I will need to finish some kidney surgery started on March 5, which is now scheduled for April 9. With the condition I have the Dr said the most it could be postponed is 2 1/2 to 3 months. Also, he stated that if we wait there could be an explosion of the virus. So I agree with him and will be monitoring the situation before going forward on this.

Uncle Dave

I have no clue why your mother thinks it's safe to go out shopping like that at this time. The governor has just ordered to stay home for 14 days for those over 65. Obviously allowing one to get groceries and Rx's and staying away from anything not recommended now.

Smart move with the surgery, Scott. All elective surgical procedures has been postponed for the next 60 days here.

Hi Dave,
Hate to think what my mum is up too, prefer not to know, because , quite frankly she wouldn’t listen anyway, if I told her she shouldn’t be doing something. Hopefully her friends in the village have got more sense and don’t take her out. From 500 miles away, one doesn’t have much influence.

Finally a little good news for you, Scott. Glad to hear it....and yes, I would do it under the conditions you mentioned.

My mom won't listen. She's a hard headed force of nature. My sister is with here .... maybe she can talk sense into her after some time. I can only hope.
Why is a shop like that even open?

Hi Scott,
I suppose if there’s no rules being broken, and no chance of someone spreading the virus, why wouldn’t one do it.

There are 21.3 million (2018) people in Florida. There are 20 deaths the from Corona Virus. For argument sake let’s say it is 2,000 deaths, one hundred times as much. My chances of getting killed, are far higher from a snake bite, or a gun, or driving on I95 parkway.

This IS NOT to make little of the virus, we should be concerned and take precautions. But fear can only bring more fear, then you really have a problem.

Scott, use wisdom, check for snakes, and people who are carrying a rod. And above all, stay away from the parkway, and you’ll be just fine.
