I just use the built in one from Microsoft. Never a problem in several years.

Windows Defender, which is built into the latest versions of Windows 10, does a great job. No need for another unless you are seeking added piece of mind. But it comes with a caveat. The free one usually will have nag screens trying to get you to go to one of the paid versions.

There's many free Antivirus software programs, unfortunately some are only trial versions.

One worth considering is https://www.avira.com/en/free-antivirus-windows.
I have also used AVAST. https://www.avast.com/en-gb/index#pc

Try, as you can test a few and see which of them fits your requirements.

Bitdefender free is pretty good and less intrusive than Avast (which is why I swapped).

Tony, +2 or 3 for Windows Defender. Some of the tech guys that do podcasts are no longer recommending a program like Symantec or MacFee. The key as always exercise caution when opening attachments especially from those you don't know.

Oysters Rockefeller, crab cakes, Cream Of Crab Bisque, Garlic Bread - Hey, I live in Maryland! wink Over my lifetime, I've had all the turkey, spiral sliced ham, turkey stuffing, and pies I could ever want - now it's stuff I really like, year round! smile

Merry Christmas,

Ha ha has nothing to do with computer virus protection. But have to say DNJ’s candy cane looks great.

Jerry, You always have that great sense of humor.

........and while we’re talking about things that have nothing to do with a computer virus I’m typing this reply from 28,000 feet on a Southwest flight to Orlando. We were at 40k but it was too bumpy, it’s still bumpy and probably one of bumpiest flights I’ve ever been on. Getting back to computers if we didn’t have them or the great technology I would have never been able to post this. wave

Steve, sorry to hear yourhaving such a bumpy ride ... Hang tough, my friend ...

I've shown Donny's 'Peppermint stick Caprese' to a number of people ... It's a really cute idea ... I see the basilico (basil) leaves on the dish, but I think I would add a 'bow' of pesto to the stick ...
Yummmm

Hi Tony,
I’ve just been using Windows defender for the last few years.
I’ m just careful of what I download.

Spent a fortune over the years buying the BEST of the best. My son, who works in IT, just told me I was throwing money away.
