Donny, DonM gave me most of the answers I was looking for....
Eileen and Fred gave some answers at your request..

To recap.. You can only layer the 3 right hand parts, unless
you use ensemble (then you have 4).
What I like about layered parts, you can get interesting results in
sound. I also like to use this method instead of OTS. Since you can have
combinations. My G70 has 6 parts to layer or blend. My E-A7 has 4.

Files in a folder is limited to 2,500.

3g is max in expansion memory, and 128g is confirmed max flash(so far).

I am use to 2g external on the G70 (plenty, because no audio).

The E-A7 has no limits on files in a folder, and will read 2 terabytes flash.

The karaoke files are still not practical.. Search is limited to 2,500 files
in a folder. And the need to open the Zip tp play CDG.
Still better to use my cell phone. grin

At this point, I most likely will pass on the Genos and SX. They don't offer
any benefit for me, over what I have. Other then lighter weight(G70).

I still need to play your Genos and Dave's SX.

Well we tried....no surprise there..
Personally I wouldn't use anything you asked..
Enjoy your G70/EA7 nothing wrong with that ....
you don't need anything else....
Until Roland releases a new arranger kb
and maybe not even after that.
Happy Holidays.

I can't imagine having 2,500 CDG files, but then I mostly play styles anyway.
The obvious advantage of using the Genos to play CDGs is the huge screen. Easy to see, change pitch, etc.

Don my reason for asking about CDG, and why 2,500 is not nearly enough..

I do some karaoke parties, and you need to handle request quickly.
I have over 100,000 files and an online service with over 31,000.

The keyboard with this option would be a plus.. Video out would handle big screen.

And for a far reached request while doing solo work..it could come in handy. Biggest thing for me I would have the lyrics instantly. Where most of you have text files..

PS: I have never charged for karaoke parties. smile They have all been for kids and special needs folks as donated time (My daughter teaches special needs kids and I have a special needs grandson.. I play both parties).

Imagine if Roland would update the E-A7 to play CDG .. It already handles a large library. It has a decent search.

Can you layer 4 sounds.. I know there are 3 right and 1 left, but in non split , can the left sound be layered with the 3 right? It also appears that sustain is not possible for the left sound.. Is that correct?

It also appears that chords do not appear in SMF's unless they are embedded . Is this true?

Can it read karaoke files (CDG and MP3 contained in Zip folders) Or do you have to convert to a Yamaha format?

How large of a flash drive can the Genos read ?

Is it possible to read a USB drive containing for example 30,000 karaoke files in a single folder, and use a
search feature to locate a specific song?

There is no sampler? Is this correct..? Can you import a wave file sample... for a tone, not a pad?

Would be interested in the same points with the SX900..

Some answers ...

No you can not layer the left and the right hand voices. When i turn on the left hand it automatically creates a splitpoint,,

I am not a midi file user, so i stay awayfrom answering thosequestions..

I have a 256GB usb stick in use, no problems at all, we do not know the limit yet, someone else is using a 512GB stick... but you can use 30.000 karaoke files on a stick and browse them alltrough a search filter.

There is no sampler, butyou can import your own samples troughthe YEM.. which is the edditing software and pack manager for yamaha keyboards.
- the YEM should have been an onboard tool like on other keyboards, its the indepth spund edditor and creator..
- there is no need for a keyboard to be a live sampler, where it comes to actually sampling sounds. Being able to import samples is more then enough.. a workflow for sampling. Using your mobile phone to record a sample outside, using your DAW to edit the sample.. and then importing it in your keyboard..

The answers also apply tothe sx900

Hi ,
sounds like the functions are almost the same between Genos and Sx 900.
Genos has more memory .
I don’t think the style creator differs between the two. To do any real in-depth editing, one needs external software.
Genos now has the chord looper and the style reset button.
Both have to use Yem for loading samples.
Genos has more sliders and knobs, and buttons.
Larger screen , but still works the same.
Better keybed with aftertouch.
Haven’t got a USB stick larger than 128 gig, it appears to work fine.

I to am curious if a left hand split voice could be able to have say a bass and piano voice combined, without accompaniment turned on? Simplified 2 voices on lower left hand split point.
