I am wondering if the SX900 is up to par with the Pa4X as far as CDG files and reading the score of midifiles. Is there an improvement from the S970, which is next to useless finding the melody track and changing the key in the score. The Pa4X is excellent, but wondered about a MOTL with speakers like the SX900.

The SX900 does a good job of it. One thing I noticed, if the MP3 is not in the right key, you must go to a tiny screen and use "pitch shift" to change it. On Korg you just use the transpose button.

Thanks Don,
I am trying to assess the difference from the S970, to see if it is worth it.

Hi Rikki,
I know that is the best way, but would take some travelling. I know many things are improved, like the general sound, speakers, sample capacity, and probably drums and styles. The big question was in reference to displaying SMF and CDG files for my Karaoke show I host. Don says it does a good job, so if I want to see how they work, I will have to make a trip. I have been spoiled by the Pa4X, and it ,probably, isn't a fair comparison. However, I want a smaller board with good speakers for small NH jobs, and while the S970 is pretty good, I know the SX900 is better to some degree anyway.

I tried to ignore all the fuss, but maybe there is something to investigate.
Thanks for asking,
Bernie

Bernie, I went from the S975 to a Sx900. Is there a big difference? No, but it is better, starting with the overall sound, it will cover a room much better.

Ed was at my house yesterday; he would be a good person to answer your question. He is using a S970 or a S975.

I love the playlist and registration work around, that is an improvement. Eight Registrations, style improvements. Easy to carry.

And there us more, John C.

I appreciate your input,John. You are certainly an excellent judge of sound, being a piano tuner and a lifetime in music. Since Don knows what I am asking, I am sure it's fine.

Looking to learn.
What will a laptop give you that the iPad wont? If you bring your laptop to the job, Donny has a good point.

I rarely use midi files, so I am looking to learn. When I used my laptop, all my line dancing were MPs of the original. Sometimes I used a CD of the original.

John C.
No question was ever dumb. Not asking is very dunb.

I find any tablet ipad/android etc, doesn't come close to the
SEARCH & Navigational functions of a laptop
on stage in any way shape or form using its keyboard vs a finger.
I've tried them all and dumped them all ...
but still have my trusty laptop,
setup right it's bulletproof for my needs.

Good question Donny, but I combine solo keyboard with the show. I have about 30-40 who attend, with some coming 45 min early to listen to the music. During the show I sing and play when needed. It adds another dimension that the people like. In addition, I have a full karaoke setup for the singers.

My restaurant is also loaded with Karaoke singers (some "real vocalists, too) and the easiest method I've found is to use my iPad running Karafun. It's a $10 per month subscription to 40,000 songs, that allows easy-peasy search, singers name, key change, tempo change, and can easily power a second monitor, if your setup can benefit from such. One benefit is that the singer (s) sees a full screen with moving lyrics, and you see the song list and que to continue navigation while they are performing. Awesome easy, and in most cases - fits fright on your keyboard music rack.
Give me a call, if you want more info.

Thanks UD
I tried to answer twice yesterday, but a glitch wouldn't send it. The bottom line is I will see if the wifi in the building is any more reliable than when I considered streaming a few years ago. Ninety percent of my people bring their own disks, but there are advantages.

Bernie,
Karafun allows you to store 1000 songs in your device (iPad, for me), so even with no wifi - you can have a staple set of favorites ready to go on a desert island ... assuming you have a battery powered speaker system, of course. For the odd request that falls through the cyber cracks - you can use your phone as a hotspot. Of course, a strong wifi connection is preferred, but there's always a workaround.
