I now have the most versatile studio I've ever owned, and in the smallest space. It's an 8x10 second bedroom. I decided to stack the SX900 on top of the SV-1, so I can get the best Rhodes tones along with the styles, and layers. I can also record direct to the SX.

I have a wireless midi guitar rig (Montreal triple play) that feeds into the SX through a mixer, so I can also record that directly for a quick demo, without firing up the Big Mac. T

he PA-4x is my main studio piece, giving me incredible vocal options, and all the sounds and features I can imagine, especially adding the possibilities of software sounds. There's a dedicated Akai MKP49 controller for simple Logic tasks.

There's a live guitar/bass/drum rig ready to go that can be played direct to the Mac and monitored in cans (apartment recording 101) so the neighbors don't get their panties in a bunch. This room can now support a live jam with Me at the controls, a drummer, guitarist, bassist, and 2nd keyboardist.

I'm THRILLED! (and I'm all done my Christmas shopping, so I can relax and just enjoy my mini-van studio) ... when I'm not working to pay for all this! lol

Just wanted to share my latest setup. For those interested - my live rig is mostly guitar based, these days. I use a drum machine, tracks, or just strum and sing. Easy setup - fun for me, and versatile for the wanna be singers in my audience.

Hmmmm ... not sure why it chose to show just the one picture. There's 4.

Congrats Dave! Well organized and versatile setup for sure! Wow - lots of neat toys for sure! Enjoy camping out in that "Musician's Heaven"!

I am embarking on my first Expansion Pack install on the SX900...did it once before on the old S910.... this one will take a while I believe...

Have fun!

Sorry, not to hijack Dave’s thread, but you shouldn’t find it all that difficult Randy.

Dave, nice setup. Are you using the triple play to drive sounds from the SX900?

Hi Dave,
great find, you aught to post it on a seperate thread. I imagine there might be a few of us who have never used Yem before.

John was asking for a help thread for our SX’s.

Recently, while I was SETTIN' at my SX900, I was very happy enjoying the new toy. But then, I reached for my drink (coffee of course!) and couldn't remember where I had SIT it. So I looked around and there it was SETTIN' on the table beside where the SX900 was SITTIN'. All was good once I got the drink and SET back down.... Just sayin'.... rotf2

Sorry Don - it's cold as all "YOU KNOW WHAT" here in the south today... couldn't help it.

YEAH - there's a huge blemish on that "mint" cube. If they weren't so heavy, I'd switch it with the one that gets covered with the rack case.

Wow Dave - congrats on being a music teacher! I did that gig for a short while before jumping into the AF Band. I was an elementary music resource teacher (instrumental). I will admint that I frequently went home with headaches from squeaking clarinets and drummers who would just not stop drumming. But the teaching job was a fun gig for sure - just got the calling for the playing gig --- it was a tough decision for sure. Congrats on your service to the lucky students!

When I turned 50, I decided to teach high school music and drama in an alternative school that was populated with mostly special needs, and hard-a** kids. Best ten years of my life. I turned 60, and just wanted more stage time, so I retired from that and added more nights performing. The most gratifying part was producing the musicals, and concerts. LOVE to watch my kids shine their own light. Friday I get to sit front row, center at their fall production of “Peter and the Star Catcher” ... SO excited to see everyone.

Nice setup.

So did you find the Rhodes sounds in the SX-900? Any good?
I suppose they can't match the SV1. Is that an electronic base drum pedal that's part of your drum kit?

Oh yea, hope you still have room for visitors. Ya never know, Donny may need a place to crash. smile

Congrats Dave on your musical accomplishments and your service to those special kids! Musicals are a blast - think the musicians and performers enjoy performing in them as much as the audience loves seeing them! A "win-win" for the kids, staff, and the watchers!

Larry, I found a few factory sounds that are pretty good, and I like the DX (from exp pack) blended with a more mellow choice. I'm no where NEAR settled in with this board - I just know I like what it does, so far. I'm in no real rush to dig too deep. I can play it as is when I need to.

That kick drum pedal is the Roland KT-10, and it's AWESOME! I have the old KD-7 around in case a drummer plays double pedals, but for me - it's great.

Thanks Tom. I actually redid the setup last night. I wanted to make a more "client friendly" room, and that means having the best piano/synth/drums combination available, and still leave room for me to work my magic at the desk, so ... I put the 4x on top of the SV-1, and moved the SX next to me at the controls. This combo allows clients to have a more conventional piano/synth rig that has more ooomph (solid keys, sliders etc), and allows a quick record (with no computer) that has live drums, guitar, piano and bass.
Since the SX is still new to me, I like having it in a more accessible location as I learn it's quirks. It also has a more generic set of drum patterns for quick demo recordings. I wish the holidays weren't upon us ... I'd love to have more down time to fiddle with this stuff!
