A Genos?
No, just kidding, that wouldn’t fiit you.. what i have seen from you in the last decade or so

In general what i have noted is that you fly all over the place
But allways get back home when you buy a yamaha..

Just accept the fact that you are mostly a Yamaha man these days..
And i can see the reason behind that..

A solid arranger (synth du jour), a fast computer, and a good mic is all you need Donny. Now that you're not playing out, you can do anything you want with a basic home studio setup. I'm a little jealous. I'm runnin' my arse off ... but then again - you're so much older than me. You deserve the rest.

Yes sir been there done that,...paid my dues in the trenches..
now I can sit back and relax. The mic and fast Pc I have,
maybe the SX900 will complete the package.

Sounds like a perfect fit so far. Even a decent controller makes for an enjoyable recording experience. I seriously doubt that the 900 will disappoint in that capacity.

Bachus yes I am very fickle minded with everything in life
as it's too short to dilly dally,.... but your correct when you say I am mostly and always was a Yamaha man for many reasons. I know what I like and hear when I play & sing and Yamaha always gave me that more easily then anything else out there. So to leave the wondering behind I try many things and sort it out afterwards,....
just like my mom R.I.P. always said,.. "when eating at least try it once then if you don't like it never have it again"
....the message is the same. wink

Hi Donny,
best of luck with your Yamaha odyssey. But I happen to know you also have Mixcraft Pro 8, and was wondering in how far all the sound samples that come with it, including the 20 soundmodules such as mini-moog, pianissimo, etc. fall short of your expectations as compared to the ones in the keyboards ?
And have you extended the plethora of sounds/samples included in Mixcraft with yet more and better samples ? Cause if so a decent master keyboard would be all you need ??

John ....Mixcfraft 8 Pro is an awesome DAW and besides all that comes with it, I have many other really kool VST's also, some for playing, others for Vocal processing, and a few advanced Suites for editing. But,....there's just something about the freedom of playing an arranger kb that isn't quite the same as using a controller
with your DAW. Each do different jobs for a multitude of purposes..take care.

Donny,
I am happy for you, Rikki, and everyone else anticipating a new toy. I have been afflicted with GAS{gear acquisition syndrome) for many years. It is past time to pay my dues and learn more of what I have. With four arrangers, an SD40, BIAB, VArranger, 30 professional harmonicas,Midi harmonica,2 controllers and a Keytar, I have more projects than years on this planet.

BUT, Y'ALL GO HAVE FUN. SOB SOB

Hi Bernie thank you. There is always the s970 that could find a new home. Haha.

Main reason I’m doing it, discovered I actually enjoyed playing my psrs950 the styles just suited me better. It’s been sitting in a corner for 5 to 6 years unused. I bought it, a few weeks later Pa3x arrived on the scene, end of story, the Psr just sat.

Basically it’s 7 year old? technology now, just want to upgrade and actually play for a change . Won’t need to spend all my time converting psr styles to Korg. Haha

Some of the new functions sound interesting, the chord looper, the style reset function, the key feel is apparently better, some sort of a pad / audio function, haven’t quite worked that one out yet, or at least not I finally get my hands on the keyboard.

Found external psr software that will help to do the odd bit of editing or style creating, there’s at least one, I want to convert across from Korg, my 4/4 Ballad and maybe the odd simple jazz style from biab.

Hi Rikki

Oh, I think the SX900 will be a winner alright. I will be anxious to find out how much better it is than the S970. I told the wife about all the excitement building for the SX900, but that I was through buying keyboards. She had the unmitigated gall of laughing at me.

You don’t think she quite believed you Bernie ? Haha

Wow, that sounds so familiar. I’m feeling less guilty than usual, though, sold the korg, sold some of my teddy bear collection . And yesterday we went out and bought hubby a brand new 65 inch tv for his PlayStation. Keeps him busy and I’ll be able to play with my new toys. Win, win. Haha

The touch screen, key action improvements, and chord looper are enough to warrant the upgrade in my book.

YAMAHA DEBUTS ITS NEW PSR-SX SERIES – THE PSR-SX700 AND PSR-SX900
RELLINGEN (August, 1st 2019) — True to its pioneering status in digital workstation technology, Yamaha released the first two flagships within its brand new PSR-SX series: The PSR-SX700 and PSR-SX900. Based on the PSR-S series, both models have been completely redesigned and come with a wide array of exciting new features for even more playing, composition and songwriting possibilities.

Visually, the stylish and intriguing PSR-SX700 stands out with its clear lines and dynamic form. Designed to offer a maximum of playing enjoyment, the PSR-SX700 comes equipped with a broad palette of features and functions for more musical inspiration and creative exploration. The new FSB keyboard, complete with 61 keys offers players remarkable comfort and nuanced expression, thanks to its heavier initial key resistance and greater key travel. The new joystick provides players with greater intuitive pitch and modulation control for more sound variability.

At the technological heart of the PSR-SX700 is the newly designed graphic user interface complete with an integrated 7.0-inch touch screen display which offers the maximum of user-friendly functionality. As for sound, the PSR-SX700 possesses a comprehensive and sonically stunning set of 1,507 high-quality authentic voices and 400 styles for unlimited musical combinations. All functions can now be activated even faster using the new assignable buttons, making each function instantly recallable with a single touch.

In terms of memory, the PSR-SX comes equipped with 1 GB user memory and further 400 MB expansion memory for Voice & Style Expansion. In addition to WAV recording, MP3 recording is also available, as well and audio files which can be both played via USB-to-device and user memory.

Created with the same dynamic style, the PSR-SX900 offers even more features for professional composition and performances. This includes a total of 1,873 voices, 525 styles for greater musical choice, as well as new drum kits (derived from the Revo! Drums of Genos) that add greater authenticity to every composition and performance. An additional Chord Looper function allows to record and playback chord sequences, freeing your left hand from playing, while the new expansive sound field Speaker, Bluetooth® audio and high-resolution sound for line out, sub-outs enhance every performance. Moreover, the PSR-SX comes with 4 GB user memory and further 1 GB expansion memory for Voice & Style Expansion.

Hi,
Don’t quite understand what Revo drums actually do, but I think the sx900 only has the Revo drum samples, doesn’t actually work the same way as it does on the Genos.

Revo drums vary the intensity or location of repeated drum hits. So they all don't sound the same or as repetitious. More like someone playing real drums would do. I hear the sx900 drums have similar samples but don't have that variation.

I have to say that even though wave cycling is a selling feature on Genos, in the demonstrations of it...I never really heard a noticeable difference. Maybe if I had a Genos, it would be more apparent.

I think the fact that the drum samples from the Genos are used in the SX900...will make a big difference in the quality of the drums...rendering the wave cycling option moot. (MHO)

Revo drums as posted by Eric

Just like a real drummer it can be more subtle or more apparent.
I have heard both in the Genos.
Don't know how much it ads to the realism.
The main thing for me are the high quality drum samples.
They have a lot more presence and kick to them.
They are as good as the Audio Styles from the T5.
I even like them sometimes better.
Having those drum Samples in the SX900 will make a huge difference.
I'll be getting one for sure to replace my S970.
But I'll wait til next year ...

Hopefully I’ll know tomorrow. They finally got all my P121 bits together and my sx, and shipped on Friday. Couriers don’t work weekends here, so fingers crossed.

I got through half of it. That wouldn't make me want to buy one. Midi file was just o.k. Didn't like the drums much. And I KNOW there are better guitars in there.

Demos never made me a believer either Don...
I buy it, play it, after that it's yes or no..
simple concept,....been keyboardless without an arranger KB
for over a month and honestly I miss playing one.
Fingers crossed for the SX900,....new Keyfeel, Songlist, etc,
we'll see shortly.

Not to be a killjoy, but I think Henni has the right idea-make some new styles and use the 770.

I agree with DomM - not at all a good rendition. While the player is pretty good at what he did with what he had to work with, I like my rendition and custom style much better - but what the Hell, I'm a bit prejudicial with this one. wink

Here's my rendition of Hotel California recorded live during a performance in a Towson Maryland nite club job where I was filling in for a friend who was in the hospital.

Here's the link to the style for you Yammie users. Hotel California Style

Enjoy,

Gary cool

Travel'in Easy thank you for your wonderful rendition of "Hotel California". You gave me some wonderful ideas as to how to interpret this amazing composition. I started messing around with it and it opened up the flood gates as to how this tune can be played. Your opening chord progression led me to a salsa version I made up and I'm going to spring it on my Latin Jazz group. I'm going to do a waltz version that I'm going to try at my Senior Center gig. Thank you so much for your mentoring and fresh musical ideas.

Thank you for all the things you do.

Salsaman, check out Marc Anthony's salsa version of hotel California. On of my favorites!

Salsaman, glad I can still be an inspiration. I have always been a bit creative, and as long as I can still draw a breath, I hope to have fun in this life.

Paul, I loved that rendition - it really rocks!

All the best,

Gary

I agree, that's why I still use my TC Helicon VL3.
The VH Voices in the Genos are really clear. It's the tracking that's behind the TC Helicon ...
