OK, I know I'm old and stuck in my ways BUT!! I don't like touch screens. I've had a ipad for 2 or 3 years and don't use it. I have a late model smart phone that I can't use. I'm taking computer courses in college and the have a bank of Dell laptops we can use in class. No go. Ican't use the touch pad. Gotta have a mouse. Seems I use too much pressure or not enough pressure. Who knows? What I do knoe is the pointer doesn't go where its supposed to. Fortunately my psr3000 uses buttons. I really would like to move up to a newer kb but how would I handle a non-responive touch screen?

You are not alone. I don't care much for touch screens. I also have and continue to use an iPad... but only for playing chess and taking photos. Not a fan of Apple... and often wish I'd made a better investment. I'm not giving up on touch screen technology but prefer something more tactile or easy to manage.

I keep a large portion of my catalog of original songs on a Smart Phone kept in "airplane mode" so I can listen and decide what needs to be improved upon, re-recorded or relegated to the scrap heap. It's touch screen is very annoying to me and I get better results by using a stylus.

Glad my PSR-2000, PSR-S910 and PSR-S970 don't use touch screens.

Most are adjustable to your touch. I found them easier to use that buttons. It did take a little time to get use to them.

BS. You have to give it a chance. A week of touch screen and you'd be throwing rocks at all those buttons and menus on the beat up old S970.

Sorry Don, but it doesn't rock if it just doesn't work. I'm not exactly computer illiterate. My main source of income comes from a website I've had for several years, "Gunshows-USA.com". I've been able to obtain a number one position on Google search for gunshows for over 10 years with over 10,000 unique visitors every day without touch screens. I would love to be able to use them. Just seems that my touch is either to strong or to weak. The damn things won't work for me and I know I'm not the only one.

I think I must have no aura. I struggle with touch screens too. Some are better than others. My Roland E-50 is frustrating, Korg Pa800 is a little better. I'm glad that most of the "real time" controls like variations, fills, OTS selections are physical buttons.

Maybe off-topic, but on my iPhone 7, I would guess that one out of four touches produces an unintended result, or fails to produce the desired result (compared to maybe one in fifteen or twenty with a computer keyboard/mouse, and that due to human error.) I can't believe people put up with that failure rate!! Auto-correct is a mixed blessing. Sometimes it changes things that I typed correctly. Now I use voice-to-text when privacy isn't a concern, but even so the frustration factor is pretty high.

My hands and fingers are average-sized and I don't have any neuro-motor defects that I know of. I just think the iPhone's ergonomics are terrible. And don't even get me started with the ergonomics of the camera controls.

BTW can anyone recommend a good Kirilian photographer? :-D

there are two types of touch screens, capacative and resistive. The type you have makes a difference to how they react. Capacitive screens (like on the Ketron SD9) are much more sensitive to touch, generally brighter and clearer but you can't use gloves (unless they are designed for touch screen use), Resistive screens are cheaper and requires you to press the screen a little rather than just touching it. There are pros and cons for both, but generally the capacitive screens feel much classier and are easier to use. Moving between two screen types can be a bit off putting.

Yea I’m one of those i.e. wanting to throw rocks. I got so used to touch screens on my arrangers that when I fire up the s970 I keep wanting to touch the screen to change it.

I will add this for doing any serious computer work I prefer a laptop with a mouse to navigate. My wife on the other hand doesn’t want anything to do with any computer other than an iPad or other touch screen device.

Thanks, Ted & Tonewheel... for sharing your thoughts and knowledge about a facet of technology few understand (or need to understand... as long as it works for us) and appears to be constantly evolving.

My children don't appear to have problems with their touch screen phones or iPads... but I suppose my less than magnetic personality causes all the little disasters I seem to be able to create.

Any day now, our computers will do our thinking for us! LOL! I hope they will have held my funeral before that happens!

I can't figure out why I get out of my car, press a button, lock it, then walk to my front door, press another button, and stand there wondering why IT won't open....

I don't have a problem working with touch screens, but like Steve, when working on my desktop I prefer using a mouse ... can't get used to using the 'touch pad' on laptop.

Rocket scientist that I am... LOL... maybe a solder gun and some hard wiring is your solution... but the risk may be worse than the reward! It is aggravating, though... to think you've "zigged" and the panels says, "You Zagged!"

About the only thing I can think of, is a 3rd party multi-switch (similar to the FC-7, but buttons not pedals.) With a MIDI solutions module, you could probably configure each of the buttons to perform a custom function by sending a MIDI or SysEx message. It wouldn't totally replace the touch screen, but at least you could have your most critical real-time functions replicated in hardware. My $.02.
