Hi all, is it possible to hook up the SD40 to my SD1. I want to continue using my left hand accompaniment from the SD1 bu id like to use the right hand sounds from the SD40. Is this possible or a pipe dream?

First, let me say never saw/played an SD1, but I would think that it should very do-able. The "trick" will be to understand the MIDI out functions on the SD1, and what you can/can't configure. Basically, you need the "right hand" of the SD1 to send out MIDI note info. I'm assuming you can assign a MIDI channel for that? If true, you can configure the SD40 to accept that information. The trick here is splitting up the left and right-hand parts on the SD1 and if you can configure them on sperate MIDI channels?

I just downloaded the SD1 User Manual from the Ketron Italy site. Check out page 108 in that manual for a section about MIDI transmit options on the SD1. It looks like you should be able to configure it to send out "Right" on whatever MIDI channel you select. By default, the SD40 will receive on Channel 1 so start with that.

Run a simple test. MIDI out of the SD1 into MIDI In1 (GM) on the SD40. You should be able to play a few notes on the SD1 and trigger a sound in the SD40. Once that is working switch the cable to MIDI In 2 (KeyB) in the SD40. It should still play but using In2 will allow access to additional sounds on the SD40.
