Do you remember me?
I sat upon your knee
I wrote to you with childhood fantasies
Well I'm all grown up now
and still need help somehow
I'm not a child but my heart still can dream.
So here's my lifelong wish
My grown-up Christmas List
Not for myself, but for a world in need
No more lives torn apart,
Then wars would never start
and time would heal the heart
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end, oh
This is my grown-up Christmas List

Yes, that's what I heard from Kelly's video wink

Natalie does a really nice job with it also ...

Sorry Donny, I listened to this song twice, and for the life of me, I could barely understand a word she was singing. I think it was a lousy mix.

I know my hearing is shot to Hell, but damned, I can still understand all the older songs and never miss a word. For some reason, Kelly has lost something along the line, because I loved listening to her on American Idol and never had a problem understanding her then.

After reading the lyrics, it seems as if it's not really a Christmas song at all, but a political statement instead. Yes, I'm a grumpy old man, and my speakers are damned good ones and I'm sure Fran's speakers are better than mine.

Fran, Here's the lyrics:

Lyrics
Do you remember me
I sat upon your knee
I wrote to you with childhood fantasies
Well I'm all grown up now
And still need help somehow
I'm not a child but my heart still can dream
So here's my lifelong wish
My grown up Christmas list
Not for myself but for a world in need
No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end, no
This is my grown up Christmas list
As children we believe
The grandest sight to see
Was something lovely wrapped beneath the tree
But Heaven only knows
That packages and bows
Can never heal a heartached human soul
No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end, no
This is my grown up Christmas list
What is this illusion called the innocence of youth
Maybe only in our blind belief can we ever find the truth
No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end, no
This is my grown up Christmas list
This is my only lifelong wish
This is my grown up Christmas list

Merry Christmas, everyone,

Gary

Gary ... For the life of me I can't believe that you and Fran couldn't understand a word she said ... maybe the bad mix was coming from your speakers ...
I'm 77 years of age, have a hearing loss in my right ear due to a lifelong punctured ear drum, and I understood every word ... confused1

As I responded to Fran. liking or not liking her vocals is subjective, but not understanding them ?!! ... that's a whole different issue ...

PS: as for understanding the older songs, the fact that we know them helps a lot ...

I understood some of them, but that first segment may as well been in Arabic as far as I was concerned.

Beautiful, on many levels. Was honored to back this young lady when sh opened for Frankie Beverly in Lexington in about 1985.

Also played with her uncle, Ike...a killer B-3 player.

Her's is a tragic reminder of the dangers of kidney failure and drug abuse.

I'm honored to have met her. "This will be" is one of my favorite Rock songs from the 80's.

What a song! What a talent.

"SOMEHOW" this was deleted from the original post, so I'm posting it again because I think it is a beautiful version of this song ...

After singing jingles for over 30 years, you learn that releases of words are extremely important in understanding the lyric.

There are certain words sung in this example where her releases are not well defined...making it difficult to understand.

We had one jingle for a client known as “Shopko”. In order to hear the “p” we had to add a silent “a” at the end of Shop. If you just say it, you’ll hear what I mean. “Shop(a)ko”.

Kelly is GREAT. Her performance helps to support the talent of Ms. Cole, too!

GREAT material, done with style, sincerity and talent by both singers.
