Now this is the sort of tutorial I can understand. Even though I have the SD40, the Midijay Pro is no slouch, sounds great. I don't play guitar, but I sure can play a harmonica. I bought a midi breath controller configured as a midi harmonica, using an AJAMsonic module as the sound source. More to come.

Could you also do this with the Audya 5?

Are there any instructions on how to setup the Ketron (midi settings) and GR-55 for this?

I used a GR-55 to control an Audya 4. You just have to make sure that the two instruments are set to communicate on the same MIDI channels.

I plugged the GR-55 into Midi In (KBD) on the Audya.
On the Audya I went to Midi and set the Global channel to 1 and all the others to --

On the GR-55 I have it set to send Midi on Channel 1.

I can hear the notes played from the guitar on the Audya, but it doesn't recognize chords I play on the guitar to switch the arranger chords.

What settings do you use for the Audya Midi ?

It depends what you are trying to do, how do you want to use the Audya?

If you just want to use the Audya to follow the guitar chords then you should be playing the left-hand part, which is by default set to MIDI channel 2 in the Audya, so you set the GR-55 to transmit on MIDI channel 2.

The way I was using the Audya was that I was playing the chords, so that the style was following me, and a friend was playing a second MIDI guitar to play the melody on the right-hand on MIDI channel 1. We used a MIDI merge box so that we could both plug into the Audya's MIDI in.

Was hoping to play both chords and notes like in the video.
You need the settings just right on the Audya and GR-55 to do this and I don’t have it quite figured out yet.

You may find it works better using pianist mode (press the button marked "pianist"). Also, experiment with the chord mode (in the Style Mode menu) to choose the best of the easy/fingered alternatives of how the notes you play are recognized as chords.

I had some problems because in the Menu settings my Audya was set to accordion, and I think it needs to be set to master.

Thanks,
Here's what seems to work pretty well.
GR-55 into Midi In 2 (KBD) on Audya
In the Midi setting, set Right channel to 1 all others off.
You will also need to make sure all are off under Arranger Chords and Voice/Drawbar.

Under STYLE/MODE set PIANIST/BASSIST = Easy. CHORD MODE = Easy 2

Use PIANIST mode to play the chords and individual notes.
I'm also playing around with assigning a button on the footswitch to turn PIANIST on/off so the chords don't get recognized and switched when I don't want it to.

Also on the GR 55 I did a factory reset (saved everything first). Then set the MIDI channel to 1 and Mode to Poly. Chromatic OFF.

This seems to work fairly well.

I would love to see and hear Larry Reed in person, and he isn't too far away, but I don't see any contact information for him.
Anyone know how to reach him?

No matter what i do i cant seem to get my SD40 to work like Larry's Midjay Pro has in his video.I love the option of having to play 3 notes together to make a chord, currently when i pick a single note my machine follows that note!!. i have tried the pianist button but still nothing. Perhaps would it be a setting on my Midi? or on my Roland Gr20 ? . All help appreciated

Module must be in Fingered chord recognition mode.
Or you can also put it in Pianist and use a sustain pedal to hold the chord until you hit 3 notes together.
It is important to set your Registration Memory parameters so that they do not change the Mode (unless you want it to).
I don't have one so can't tell you exactly step by step. I'm sure AJ will.

Thank Don, all help greatly appreciated.
Funny when i activate pianist mode to standard and use a sustain pedal no problem, but when Auto is on it just doesn't work

Correct Don.

Take note ... when in Pianist mode, ALL strings can trigger the chord. To set up so only 3 or MORE trigger a chord change turn off AUTO (in pianist) - you don't want the Arranger to 'automatically' sence when/where you are triggering chord changes from playing solo. Turn on SUSTAIN if you want to use teh stustain pedal to 'lock/freeze' the current chord - thus allowing you to solo freely, untill you release the sustain and trigger/chord the next chord (best solution).

Thanks,

AJ

Hi AJ/Don

I've just started using the SD40 and the Fishman Triple Play, I've found that with the pianist set to auto the SD40 recognises three string chords and allows you to solo using one or two strings, if you set the pianist to standard then the chord changes every time you play a single string. The auto setting also works very well without using a sustain pedal.

Hope this helps, I'm really enjoying the SD40 and my guitar playing is improving day by day.

PS: The string sensitivity on the Triple Play needs adjusting to suite your style of playing, this is a simple operation using the Triple Play software.

Kind Regards, Col
