Ketron website specs showing weight of new SD60 at 41.8 lbs! Is this correct? Others below for comparison(approximate in lbs) 61 key unless noted:

SD9 (76)- 35
SD60- 41
SD7- 33
SD5- 37.4

Korg
PA4x (76)- 35.9
PA4X - 30.6
PA3X- 32.4
PA1000- 23.7
PA900- 23.7

Yamaha
Genos (76)- 28.7
Tyros5 (76)- 35.3
Tyros5 - 30.8
PSR950- 23.6
PSR970- 23.6
PSR975- 23.6

Roland
BK9 (76)- 20.8
BK5- 16.5
EA7- 17.5

Roland is the clear lightweight winner for gigging guys. MOTL Yamaha and Korg follow..interesting.

any pro gigging musician always has a rock and roller cart to carry their Gear with so the weight factor means nothing especially when even the speakers weigh more than the keyboard it's all part of the game...

Lifting it into and out of my suv in a heavy padded wheeled case is no picnic for me after multiple back surgeries..so I think it does along with weights of everything else. Can't afford a roadie..

My moxd 6 is only 13 lbs
Add a sd40 at 4 lbs
And its just 17lbs

The 7 with 76 keys is only 2 lbs more
And the sd9 is 4 lbs more...

Why a heavy wheel case if you're using a rr kart? How much do your speakers weigh?
A Ea7 & Bose S1pro..... If you want lighter weight...

Got it with the keyboard. I have Maui 11s for singles. I'm still doing band work and I have all the stuff, rack w mixer and modules, speakers, stands, monitors, cables. So everything counts. And a cart doesn't go up stairs well..

I like my G70 and a pair of Roland Cube 100's... What the heck ..I use a rock/roller.. grin Keyboard in a wheel case 84 pounds,2 amps at 70 pounds each, and V-stand 18 pounds. frown

Talking to my contact.. he informed me I have to go down a floor via stairs.. shocked

I will be taking my BK9 and Marantz voice rover amp.. Keyboard in a case 30 pounds, Marantz amp 35 pounds, V-stand 18 pounds. grin

I can't Imagine the 61 key Ketron SD60 is 41.8 lbs..the famously heavy Roland G70 is just over 45..

It is 19kg

exactly the same case as the 16kg sd 9 pro
with added speakers

3kg difference is about what good speakers weight

A case that is 2,5" shorter and only .5" taller than sd7, with speakers, at 33 lbs..with basically same layout. I guess there's almost 9 lbs more good stuff inside, or heavier gauge housing. By my chart 7+ lb difference seems common between motl models and totl models. Still I wonder as components get smaller and lighter with technology a new 61 key arranger comes in at nearly 42 lbs. I concede that the sd90, the heart of the keyboard version, is 3.5 lbs more than the alternate sd40, but the sd40 doesn't have the full panel that the sd7 keyboard version does..
Add 6 lbs to a PA4x or Genos (76) for speakers and they're still in mid 30s..
So does it have to be heavier to be better?

So does it have to be heavier to be better?

I think it depends on your definition of "better". My Audya and Pa4X are heavier than my S970, and in this case it translates into a more robust and firm feel of the case, and, certainly, the keybed. Maybe some of this is merely perceived as stronger, since the plastics today are supposed to be higher impact resistant. Psychological or not, I will forego light plastics and keybeds as long as I can.

As long as I have known Mr. Bernie he was willing to carry extra weight to get the sound he wants. The last I remember it was a Kn7000, heavy, one of the first Bose, heavy and plus, plus, plus.

My viewpoint .. the heavier models are always better than their lighter models.. smile

I sold my G70 to get a Pa800 some years ago, because it was a little lighter. The dumbest thing I ever did, outside of my second marriage to the accordion player.

Actually, the accordion playing brought in extra bucks. It was two resentful teenagers that doomed that one.
