Mu scanner broke down...

Now i am trying to make pictures from sheet music with my ipad, and then converting them to pdf, and importing then in forescore

However 2 problems
-there is allways shadows from my ipad on the paper
-some books dont allow to be layed really flat, and the roundings of the paper are allways visible in the pdf(those perky books that will not stay open on the sheetmusic stand in the first place)

Any advise is welcome how to use an ipad and convert a piece of music on real paper to a perfect pdf for my dorescore sheetmusic app?

I have not found any magic formula for making perfect copies using an iPad or iPhone. Sometimes I have shadows and sometimes I don’t. From my point of view I use the lead sheets as a guide since many of the tunes I’ve played many times a shadow here and there is not a problem for me.

I think i made some progress...
Putting a bright light to the side of the book
And my ipad above it does not have a shadow on the paper..
Also the higher side of the opened book does not leave much of a shadow

Now figuring out how to make the this side of the musicbook lay flat...

Actually its really silly that they make books like this, that don’t stay open on a music stand..
And now i need to copy an expensive book to the ipad

Steve, just when I think I have it all together you come up with something I never thought of. I guess that means it pays to know you. (smile)

So you take a picture of the music and then ??? How do you get it into the program you are using in your iPad?

Hope all is well, John C.

Hi - this idea will only help if you access to a copier machine (I have a simple home copier). When I have those books that won't lie flat, I make a copy of each desired page (holding the book down hard with both hands or a heavy object while making the copy) - then I scan (or in your case, 'photograph') the copy page(s), which will now lie flat.

This isn't a perfect method, but it somewhat works.

Also, with shadows etc. - I use Photoshop, but you can use most any "photo-editing" program. Edit the scanned or 'photographed' page, use the "Brightness and Contrast" type settings, and play around with them. Often, I can adjust them to make the page more "black and white" and have less gradations and shadows. . .

Hope this helps a bit ...
Jim

Bachus ... Have you tried any of the scanner apps?

And you are correct - many music books are not user friendly ...

Yes... i tried a few...

But the darkroom feature in forscore seems to work just as well as any of the scanners and foto edit programs..

Darkroom allows you to make a foto of the music and edit it.. then save several sheets of music together as a song.... inside forscore... you can also export the sheetmusic as pdf... or annotate your own edits on it with the applepen...

John,

I use an app called “Scanner Pro,” it’s available via the App Store. I use my iPhone then scan the sheet(s) using the phone’s camera. Once the scan is complete I then open the copy of the sheet then tap share. IN my case I upload to Google drive. Once it’s stored in Google drive I can then download to unReal book an app from the Apple App Store. You could also upload to Dropbox then download. There are actually a number of other ways to do it. It’s not really complicated but once you scan the sheet and go thru the process it becomes easier.

There’s also annother way too and probably the simplest method of all and that is to use unReal book there’s a function within that allows you to take a photo of the music and turn it into a PDF. Once that’s done your music is loaded into the app.

P.S. Thanks for the kudos!

As far as I know they do not. However, an app I use with my Android tablet is Mobile Sheets Pro works with Windows too. Our buddy TonyMads uses it too, it’s excellent.

I use it ,also, on my Androids. For starters, I downloaded all 6,000 plus songs from Scott L, and make up playlists for my band every week. For newer material, it is easy to import PDF's without hassling with iTunes, which I have UnRealbook for on my iPad.
