Seems they are available in the US to, at Frank’s store.

This is the first time i see a price, looks quite acceptable to me.

The ones I had on pre-order have already went out to the customers, I never got a chance to play with one

The Ketron SD90 Pro Live module is quite a big module, 42.2x11.5x25.5cm (16.7x4.5x10.1 inches), about one third of the width of an 88-key keyboard, but not very heavy, about 4 Kg / 8 lbs. The initial impression of the unit is high quality fit and finish.

It takes about 46 seconds for the SD90 module to boot up, and about 13 seconds to shutdown. You do not have to press the power button for a few second in order to shut it down - briefly push the power button at the back of the right hand side and it starts the power off process.

The external video display of Ketron SD90 is much better than the Yamaha Genos or Korg Pa1000, up to 1680x1050p-60 resolution through DVI connection. The pictures and fonts on the external display are much smoother than competition. Any change to current external display parameters causes Ketron SD90 to reboot every time. The module does not support touch on external display.

The included power cable is very long, about 10 feet, which I like for its longer than normal reach.

The SD90 module has 3 USB slots for USB drive connections, and a SD card slot on the right side of the module. I found that the SD card slot supports only up to 32GB SDHC cards.

The module has 2 MIDI ins, MIDI 1 in is for GM playback, and MIDI 2 in is for external keyboard connection. The USB to host port at the back connects the SD90 module to a computer through a USB printer cable so the computer sees it as a GM2 audio device, similar to the Ketron SD1000 module. There are 4 template sets for the optional FS-13 footswitch connected to the 15-pin footswitch port at the back of the module. I am not using the sustain port of the SD90 module since I use the sustain pedal on the controller keyboard already. Since I already have a Ketron volume pedal, I will hook it up later to test its usefulness in expression.

I have not had time to play around in depth with the module yet. Overall the out-of-the-box experience is enjoyable. I am especially interested in the LauchPad function of this unit, which I think is a step ahead of competition.

There are things that I think can be improved:
1. The three Int/End buttons do not have built-in LEDs like variation A through D buttons.
2. Audio IN is mono by default - I prefer stereo audio inputs like the ones on Yamaha Genos and Korg Pa1000.

The above is just the summary of first impressions. It will take a lot more time in coming months to get familiar with this module.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Bachus,

The combination of your Korg Kronos and the Ketron SD90 Pro Live module will be a powerful 88-key hammer action arranger setup for your studio. The advantage of Kronos is the most advanced sound engines with the most versatile and beautiful sounds available.

I have a 26-lb Casio Privia PX-560 stage digital piano mainly for its portability, just in case I have to move it out of my house - it has decent piano sounds but the built-in arranger portion sucks. So I use it with vArranger + Ketron SD1000 and Ketron SD90 module.

Currently I am testing the SD90 module with a very old Yamaha S80 88-key synth in my study room, and they work well together.

Thanks,
Paul

Paul,
I saw your post about the SD90 - Awesome! Thanks for
the info.

Donny,
I have to sell a keyboard or two before buying the SD90. When I do get it I will use
my Roland A800 Pro 61 Key Midi Controller with it. I currently use the SD7 and absolutely love it but the weight is getting to be a problem for my gigs. The module seems like a perfect solution for me. Usually gig 4-5 days every week and the lighter equipment load will help. I am also considering replacing my Bose L1 Compact with the new smaller Bose speaker.

Hi Deane,

You will love the light weight combination of the 10-lb Roland A800 Pro 61-key controller and the 8-lb Ketron SD90 Pro Live Module. Using the Ketron SD90 module is much more convenient and easier than using vArranger with a laptop.

The sounds and styles of the SD90 is definitely a step above the vArranger plus Ketron SD1000.

The only issue I have found so far is a stuck Right voice once in a while with my old Yamaha S80 synth as the MIDI controller. I will have to test the SD90 module with a newer MIDI controller to see if the stuck note is a defect of the SD90 or not, or just caused by the MIDI controller itself.

Thanks,
Paul

I connected the Ketron SD90 module to a one-year-old Casio Privia PX560 digital stage piano and there is no stuck note/voice issue.

This time no more chicken ramen. grin

Thanks,
Paul

Deane, re: smaller Bose speaker. You mean Bose S1?

I’ve been using two in stereo for a while now and am very impressed. If in doubt, try to audition one or two if possible. Lots of opinions out there but I would pay most attention to those who have actually used them.

Bachus, an sd9 doesn't tempt you as an (almost) all in one solution? I imagine you're somewhat used to 76 keys with the pa4x..

Well, to be honest, i mostly play on the kronos, and thats 88 key.. just a single button and it comtrolls the pa4x left and right.. or just the chords and use kronos sounds.. i only use the pa4x keys occasionally.

Over the last few years i developed a favour for weighted action...
