Pretty rough still, vs the 3X. Set my 4X back up last night after gig to keep working on it.

Is it miles ahead of the 3X? No way. Most songs sound the same, some sound a bit more defined (through headphones) and some don't match up against the 3X beauty. I believe the 76 keys make for a better sound dispersion overall.

That said, will not give up on the 4X. I have eliminated the mixer and have 4 outputs going directly into the QSCs. (2) for independent vocal control and (2) for independent keyboard control. I went back to the Apex stand it is so CLEAN............all wires behind me. The small keyboard footprint looks almost childish. LOL

The 3X will stay around for a bit longer.

Good luck zuki....but IMO the only way to make the pa4x work for you is to make a commitment keep gigging with it day by day and making changes, EQ, parts, sounds, styles, vol levels, etc, etc, on the fly & saving them in real time performance mode, put the pa3x in the closet, you have to let go,....it will take some time during many shows but eventually it will become right for you.

Agreed. I did pretty much the same going from the 1x to the 3x. Spent a few weeks getting the 'guts' over into the 3x, and then fine tuning it along the way. Have to say I've felt no real urge to move up to a 4x, the 3x is doing all I ask of it.
Keep plugging away at it, zuki.

Really on the fence with this one. 4X is a star in some things and disappointing in a lot of other ways. The 3X was always a star, to me. I'm really thinking the 76 keys makes a huge difference and wish I had that version to compare. Currently, not sure if I want the change.

So your dumping the Pa4x? return time not up yet? at least you gave it a try maybe just stick with the pa3x as its working better for you....no need to change just make what you got better and better.

good luck

61 keys on any board is difficult.

Keep at it! I just did a memorial service today and used the Genos. This was the first time I missed the tilt screen on the Pa4X. I used the “mighty bright” light on my music stand and there was a glare on the Genos. Wasn’t a huge deal but I knew the Pa4X would have solved the issue.

There is a period of time that we adapt to our current keyboard. Our ears adjust... our opinion will adjust with time, too!

Nice reminder that things take time. I'm surprised the Genos has no tilt screen. Major disappointment, IMO. The reason I didn't go with a 61 3X was due to a fixed screen.

I agree ALL arrangers should have a Tilt screen eg: KORG..
especially for LIVE performance.

I for one will never want a tilt screen over a fixed screen..

Every tilt screen I owned (Roland EM2000) and all that I am aware of, lack quality that the fixed touch screens offer...They always have problems..

There is no reason to tilt a screen.. Learn to stand up and you never have a screen problem.. and you won't get a fat butt.. smirk

I've had both, and with outdoor gigs, I give the nod to tilt screen. Even under canopy sunlight from back or side gets under and creates glare making adjustability advantageous.
Considering a pa1000, with ketron sd2 or sd1000 sitting on top. Good styles, tilt screen and best sounds..

I think my Apex, just starting using again, looks like it might be easy enough to see a fixed screen (and I stand). I might consider a 61 3X again.

Not beating a dead horse here, but I have to work hard to keep the 4X. Not the panacea that I thought it would be. I really believe 61 (vs 76) minimizes the potential of an arranger. I might try to sell and buy a 76 version.

Good luck Zuki,....keep changing gear & downsizing until you are comfortable and find exactly what rig your happy with,.......in the NH gig game Lightweight In & Out especially for doubles & triple jobs per day is key otherwise it becomes cumbersome & tiresome too,....no one wants to lug around and set up alot of gear day after day. It takes much trial and error but eventually it all works out.

You are correct Gary I stood for 30+ yrs and until I got smart and my legs, ankles, & knees told me it's time to sit down and play, no one wants to see some fat guy standing and swaying his but around trying to look kool! surprised ......
good thing I listened to my body wink
As far as the glare on a fixed screen it really sux when your a very low sitter under overhead recessed lights, or outdoors. etc,...most time a second tier shelf or sun enclosure was needed to see the display. I enjoy a Tilted screen for sure.. sheeesh even my old Tecnics KN5000, KN6000, KN7000, Tyros, had Tilt displays...
stand or squint if you like but it's NOT for me ..

all the best

How about if the guy is skinny, is that ok? ...
I stand most of the time, but I assure you, I'm not shakin' my butt to look "kool" ... rolleyes

Personally, I do not like the look of someone sitting low behind a KB, although some kind of curtain or screen from kb to floor improves the look somewhat ...
When I do sit - generally for anything longer than 1 hour - I set my seat fairly high, so I am more leaning on it than sitting ...
But, nothing is perfect, right?, and to each his own ...

Two reasons I don't normally stand--my jobs are four hours, and often turn into five hours and I can't stand that long doing anything! And I use three or more foot switches and it's hard to do when standing.
I have an adjustable office stool that I've used for years and usually sit pretty high so everyone can see me.

Same here.
Using 2 foot switches. No way I can stand.
Plus sitting ain't that bad.
Howe about Billy Joel or Elton John and others like that?

Donny ... Of course not ... as I said, anything over 1 hour, the 'Throne' is on the gig ...

Don ... Along with playing 4+ hours, using 2 or 3 switches would necessitate a seat ...

Eric ... I definitely think there is a difference between sitting low at a kb and sitting at a grand piano ...
BTW ... When I saw Billy Joel live, when he did play at a kb he was standing ... of course, he only did a couple of songs with the kb ...

I have nothing against sitting while playing ... sometimes I sit, sometimes I stand ...
I just don't think someone sitting low at a kb presents a 'good look' ...

As long as someone is making beautiful music, I don't care if they are standing, sitting, or lying down ... wink
