I say for this demo the KORG has a slight edge sound wise..
but as always EQ has alot to do with these demos,...with pretty much only Two NEWER TOTL arrangers left on the market,.....
and both being so close, I'd say you cant go wrong with either one..

all is well in arranger land..

Unless, I missed it, I didn't hear a B3 sim comparison. I too, thought the sounds too close to be decisive on that criteria alone.

Interesting...the Korg sounds are cleaner to me, the Yamaha fuller, warmer. The opposite has always seemed true to me in the recent past..could be the global eq settings as Donny mentioned.

Very close to each other , Yamaha sax and reeds are more the "real" thing .
I am happy with the Genos , but the Korg is also a great machine

Normally they do both a sound as well as a styles comparisson, which makes you wonder why they didn’t do a styles comparrison in this case?

Got both/play both instruments.

In general, to me Genos voices are richer, more varied and more realistic sounding. This is not true of my S970 or the Tyros I had before.

Both PA4X and Genos have styles that really pop. Both work very well.

I’m no expert but again to me Genos has the best sounding piano I’ve ever gotten out of my arrangers.

My perception also but you can't go wrong with either. IF I were in the market I would choose the one with the best keybed and I think thats the KORG.

I think you're right, Donny. However, for those fortunate few who could afford both, that would be the best!

If Yamaha's SuperArticulation voices would've been compared to the Korg's DNC sounds, then the winner would be easier to choose. Keep in mind, too, Yamaha's Ensemble feature, which is great.

Agree about EQ settings.

Korg sounds 'drier and softer' as it is here. Fits my taste well.
Genos has a lot of effects right out of the box that make it sound more 'crisp and wide'.
+ for sax and guitars.

As most of you say here, both are 'King of the hill' no matter what you choose..
I wish I could have both of them here right now ...... wink

I'm with the "Korg cleaner, Yamaha fuller" opinion. The only voice on either that to me was different in a way that I didn't like was the Sax which to my ears sounded significantly nicer on the Yamaha -but this might well be reversed comparing other sax voices.

There is an organ comparison in there but neither blew my socks off, both lacked depth.

As a long term Yamaha user I would get the Genos if I had the opportunity. If I was a Korg user then I don't think there is sufficient difference to justify a change unless you really want to go from the Korg sound to the Yamaha sound.

But then korg has fully edditable sounds and soundcreation from scratch on board, which allows you to create your own DNC voices.. and not just realistic ones, but also synth ones.. altough i must admit, when i do create my own sounds (which requires a huge time investment, and thats something that is a problem right now) i prefer doing so on the kronos..

The ensemble feature is however one of the things i do still miss after switching from T5 to pa4x, it is an awesome thing...

Hi Bachus, what’s the ensemble feature? I must be thinking of a different function.

Gunnar,

Do you have Genos?

Forget this post, I see from another post, your response.

Thanks Eric, that is a great feature, much more than the harmony I thought Bachus was referring to. I’d miss it too.

I think its one of the most innovative features in any hardware keyboard in this century, if not “The” most innovative

Thanx for the demos very interesting. I am not saying its a feature I would ever use when I'm playing but for some I could see alot of uses for certain types of music for sure.......
Does Genos have this ENSEMBLE also? If so has it been made even better or?...if not what did they substitute it with?...

thanx

Yes, Genos has this feature. They expanded it a bit, but since I never owned a T5 I don't know how much.

Bachus, maybe we can hint, for an upgrade. Haha . Worth a try next time they ask us what we want.
