I recorded 3 sources of Rhodes sounds .. 2 hardware and 1 vst..

I used the same type of dynamics (same song), played differently because 3 different key beds..

No intention to showcase any playing,,, in fact purposely mixed up to show dynamics of each sound..

What version sounds best and why? I selected a ballad feel since most Rhodes are associated with ballads..

I did rush this demo... maybe if there is interest I will do another with more detail and variation,,

WOW!!!! I tried my best to explain that the demo was trying to show dynamics.... I guess I failed...

Donny #1 was the worst in dynamic range... Dave and I agreed Electric Pianos on this keyboard are bad, for any Rhodes sound... They are thin and lack any expression..

I think I have your next keyboard to play around with. smile

I will reveal the line up when more comments are posted. grin

Speaking of Rhodes, I love Lounge Lizard.

I also use Lounge Lizard.. but the VST Rhodes I use most... is Velvet... It features Rhodes Mark 1 , Mark2, and Suitcase...as well as Wurly and Pianet..

My second illustration in the Demo was Velvet suitcase73 soft tremolo..

The first section was a Yamaha npv60, and the last was a G70..

For natural realistic Rhodes you can't beat Velvet..

The Yamaha lacks so much in electric pianos (lifeless)..Newer Yamaha models have a decent suitcase Rhodes..

The G70 patch used sound from the Studio card.. It has the best control for variation of sound in realtime..(3 sliders to blend the sound).

If you like Lounge Lizard..also try Velvet.

No. 1 lacks character and sounds a bit like an FM piano, almost DX-7 like.
I like no.2, it has some nice "dirt" in the sound like the 1970s e-pianos. I wouldn't be surprised if it is from Roland.
No.3 is softer again, but has an attack sound that sounds very detailed, so this could be the VSt...
