Overhere in europe advertised prices of the Montage range have been cut by almost 20%... making a 61 Montage 6 cost only €2600 if you compare that to the €4600 of the Genos, that price difference is so huge... where for ages both these instruments series where in ballance.

I think Yamaha might be either trying to undercut Korg Kronos prices, or they might surprise us with a new Montage at NAMM. (altough prices in the US are still the same, its just europe) Montage never was the success its predecessor Motif was, while the market share of the Kronos kept just growing.

I am mostly stunned about the huge price difference. I could buy a Montage, get all the great YAmaha sounds and add a brand new Ketron SD40 for getting the great Ketron styles and still be cheaper then buying a Genos.

Now the question, does this make the Montage a cheap buy, or does this really show how expensive the Genos is?

keep in mind YAmaha (as well as Korg) allready announced that they will have a major new product at NAMM. Fun thing is, Rolands Ed Diazz hinted that ROland has something great to show at NAMM to.. Sso seems like NAMM will be an exciting time for keyboardists

Hi Bachus,

I noticed that too! Today the Montage 6 price is even lower at € 2.499 at all the major shops. An even better comparison is the Montage 7 at € 2.880. Something's cooking at Yamaha ;-). Maybe it is your long awaited 88 note synth with a full fledged style engine. Most likely something else though, like a major product update to be introduced at Winter Namm in a few weeks time.

For a recent synth priced under the Kronos, I noticed this site had a Kurzweil Forte 88 key on sale at the moment for €2259:
Forte 88
And in the last few days Kurzweil added a picture to their facebook page hinting at version 3.0 being shown at NAMM.

is Kurzweil still in the game? I've heard that that name had become a propriety of "Medeli".

Keep the Montage at a lower price...

Introduce a new workstation with the Montage and Genos sounds... no styles... but this time, include a sequencer!!!

Sequencers are losing their popularity with all the great DAW programs you can use instead..

Kabinopus, the only connection I had read recently about was Kurzweil having a Medeli keybed in the newer SP6 stage piano to keep the weight down.

Nonsense...

Kurzweil is doing relatively okay with their forte range...

The forementioned forte 88, is getting software patches with new features every few months and has changed slowly from a stagepiano into a workstation...

It doesn’t take much to make a sequencer to get ideas down. No interfaces to mess up... no extra $500 to $2000 to purchase on top of the keyboard cost.

If the companies want to be “hip”... create an App based OS. Sounds and hardware functionality onboard and Apps to create your own machine. Need a sequencer... download the app! Need an audio player, download the app!

A lot of Motif XF owners were very disappointed that the Montage didn't have a sequencer let alone a sampler. If the Montage had a sequencer and a sampler people would have busted the doors down to be the first in line to get one and it would have been a huge success needless to say. The Montage has sold relatively okay but Yamaha could have hit a grand slam if they made the Montage a true Motif XF successor. So perhaps this could be a sign of good things to come. Usually when a keyboard is discounted to such an extent it's a telltale sign of a new product release in the not too distant future. We shall see.

All the best,

Mike

Just look at the Ipad Pro... thats what Audiobus 3 does. It turns the Ipad in a fullfledged workstation coupling all those lovely 3rd party apps.

The only thing missing is a high end arranger.
