Hello, I owned a Ketron Audya 5 some years ago (sold it), had a Korg pa4x (sold it), have a Tyros 5 and psr s970 (selling them), and am thinking of buying the Ketron sd9...

My method of creating songs is to set up all parameters (style, tempo, variation, mic settings, split point, etc) for each part of the song...for example, I will set up everything the way I want it for Verse 1 and save it, then do the same for each successive part of the song (Verse 2, Chorus, Lead, Verse 3,etc) until the whole song is saved, one part at a time...

On the Tyros 5 (and the psr s970), I saved each of the song parts to one of the eight provided Registrations and then saved the entire set of utilized Registrations by song title to a Registration Bank (I hope I'm using the correct terminology)...I created Folders in the Yamaha boards' User Memory with three-letter names ("A-B-C"; "D-E-F"; "G-H-I", etc) and saved the song titles alphabetically (eg, 'All of Me' in the A-B-C Folder)...I created and printed Word versions of each song, showing not only lyrics & chords, but also when to switch from one Registration Number to another...like any developed system, over time this became comfortable and intuitive...

Sorry for long prelude, but my question is: Can I achieve much, if not all, of what was I was able to do on Yamaha arrangers on the Ketron sd9? I've downloaded and read the manual (Part 7. Saving and Recalling Everything (Registrations)/pgs 129-134) and see that I can set up everything the way I want it to be for, say, Verse 1, but don't see how I can save my song settings for all the parts of a song to one Registration...

Any assistance would be most appreciated...I love the Ketron sounds and styles and would enjoy getting back into Ketron, but being able to call up multiple "scenes" or parts of a saved song in one place is important to how I like to perform...

Thanks,

Welcome to the forum. If you don't get a fast answer, it will because your questions are specific to a brand new keyboard that few people know well enough, not because you are being ignored. Hopefully, someone will step in.

Thank you, Bernie...maybe I should have asked my question more geared to Ketron arrangers in general since it may be that the saving of Registrations is similar or the same on all models...

whcanetoad,

The registration system capable of holding 'scenes' of songs, together with related MP3, Wave, Text, Midifiles, instant voices and other registrations all accessible from 1 screen is called "BLOCK REGISTRATIONS".

In other words *trying to mimic* the set up you have described above on the Yamaha units, you would set up:-

* Your song intro (style, voice, transpose, tempo ... etc) and store in REGISTRATION 1.
* Your song verse 1 (style, voice, transpose, tempo, footswitch setting, midi setup ... etc) and store in REGISTRATION 2.
* Your song chorus/refrain (style, voice .... etc) and store in REGISTRATION 3.
* Your song verse 2 .... etc....as separate files

*** You now go to BLOCK REGISTRATION ... CREATE ... and select and MAP to F1-F20 side screen buttons, the following:-
* The REGISTRATIONS you have set up above (REG1, REG2....etc).
* The Audio files (Mp3, Wave) that you may use or play along with or sync to/with any of the above registrations
* The Midifiles that you may use within this song or play along with....
* The Text file(s) you may want to use with this song ....
* The direct voice (in addition to that saved in the registration) you may want to have direct access to ....

... AND SAVE/STORE and name AS A BLOCK REGISTRATION with your own name.

Now, when you LOAD this BLOCK REGISTRATION, it will load all the single registrations, associated audio files, text ... etc just as you programmed them (adjacent to the F1-F10 buttons to the side of the screen ... similar to your Yamaha's Registrations 1-8). The extra bonus here with KETRON is you can store up to 20 registrations/Audio files/Midifiles/Text/Voices/Program Voices or combination thereof within 1 BLOCK REGISTRATION (that is 12 more registers than Yamaha).

You can create 9,999 BLOCK REGISTRATIONS!!!!

Once loaded, the corresponding registratiion(s) (song verses and parts) will be displayed next to F1-F20). Simply press the corresponding F1-F20 to instantly load/play it's content. You can program the BLOCK register such that the content should start playing immediately (once you press the corresponding F1-F20 registration/audio/midi/text file), OR ... start playing at the beginning of the next measure!

Hope this answers your question.

Thanks,

First, thank you so much for the comprehensive response and for pointing out the robust capabilities of the Ketron Registration/Block Registration system! Perhaps not surprisingly, a few additional questions come to mind:

1. Does the sd9 Arranger have this same capability with respect to individual and Block Registrations (the explanation appeared to be referring to the Audya 5 F1 - F20 setup)?

2. If the sd9 does in fact have the ability to create and store multiple (20?) individual Registrations in a single user-named Block Registration, how are those Block Registrations called up? Can they be searched alphabetically, or by artist name, or by genre, etc?

Although the ability to include midi files, text, etc, is indeed impressive, my need is to simply set and store the playing parameters of the keyboard (voices, style, tempo, transposition, vocal & harmony settings, etc) for each song part/section (verse 1 verse 2, chorus, etc) in multiple individual Registrations and have them all called up and readily accessible within a single called-up Block Registration...

Thank you again for your assistance, it is greatly appreciated...

>>>AJ:- Yes. This registration process is reserved for the AUDYA series (flagship). The other KETRON products have the single Registration structure and on the SD9 Pro, you also have the capability to associate/link a registration with another file (e.g. Audio, Midifile, Text ...etc). Registrations can be called up by alphabetical search or numeric entry (since each registration is assigned a numeric value as soon as it is created, just for this purpose of numeric recall).

I was in England last week and went to a shop in Northampton where a great guy (Trevor) actually handles the Ketron line...He had an sd9 all set up and it sounded great!

I bought it and brought it back with me to sunny south Florida this past Friday and have been noodling around with it all weekend...unfortunately, despite some killer features and sounds (I LOVE the Live Guitar pads and the audio drums are perfect!), I just can’t get it to set up the way I like (and admittedly, the way I’m used to on my Yamaha boards)...

And so - I’m going to sell it...I paid 3100 pounds for it (just over $4,000) and it is literally just out of the box...I can put it back in the same box, pack it up like new, and ship it to anyone who wants to buy it...

I’m happy to accept offers...nothing less than $3600, though...it’s a great price for a seriously great keyboard...

Thanks,

whcanetoad,

Like I had mentioned above, the registration feature you were looking for was/is unique to the AUDYA series (flaghsip), not SD9 Pro.

Contact me privately via email.

Thanks,

AJ
