Since I’m relatively new to keyboards, I thought the advantage of 76 Key arrangers had more to do with lower octave piano sounds...or piano sounds in general.

However, I’m finding it’s more than that.

On my Yamaha DGX 650, if I want a trombone to sound more like a trumpet, I just play that voice(trombone) in a higher register....sounds more like a trumpet without hitting the octave button.

I’m starting to see the advantages of 76 Keys....that is through my DGX 650...at least as much as my DGX can show me.

Voices aren’t the best on the DGX regardless of which octave I play them in.

When I came from 61 to 76 notes, I noticed the same thing besides piano. I started to learn to play instruments in their proper register by moving to a different octave on the keyboard. Too often, I would play in my accustomed position, forgetting what I was playing. In registrations, I would program it properly, but many times I play by just grabbing a different instrument on the fly. The 76 gives me room to do that.

Also...you can use the upper area as a 3rd area so to speak...assign voice 3 or whatever to an area up high and you have a nice solo area right at your fingertips.
Kind of like when I had a Thomas Celebrity royale...lower, upper and the 3rd small keybed for the MOOG synth...wow, that's been a while ago for sure!
