Watch a bit of this... listen with headphones.

Does this type of demo from a U.K. Yamaha "specialist" help or hurt the Genos?

Sound seems to come from the new 2.1 speaker system. It also seems like the audio was recorded with the mic from their recording device.

Thoughts?!?

Not quite sure how it was recorded, but it was a good listen and watch demo which demonstrated the variety of older type styles that could be efficiently utilized by older players. Sounded really good to me, but Hell, I'm deaf so it, like many things in current life, really doesn't count.

Thanks for the link, Johnathoan,

Thanks.
I saw it on the PSR Forum.
It doesn't do much for me. Sound-quality is poor and same old same old stuff being played.
I do like a more refreshing type demo.
Plus no new features were explored.
Hopefully soon we will have some nice demos coming from Europe, with Peter Baartmans etc.
Eric

Based on that presentation, I wouldn’t be out placing an order on a $6k plus Keyboard.

Yes... I need to hear one in person!

It was a nice demo except for the recorded sound quality. Time will tell!!

This demo would not motivate me to buy a Genos! Got to play one hands on and am anxious to hear Peter Baartmans or Michel Voncken.

I agree! Peter Baartman is a superior showman besides being a very accomplished musician.

WHat the demo was meant to show, is that this is Tyros 6
And it worked quite well to do so

No attention for all the new features in this demop
not the new multipads
not the new arps
not the new deejay styles
not the new interface

Just some typical arranger stuff
aimed at the current group of loyal buyers
And on PSR tutorial those people loved this demo
They said: finally a real demo of the things i want to hear.

Recording is poor and player did not do anything for me as far
as a demo goes. Playing the Genos in person is the true way to
hear the Genos or listen to Bartmans in Nov. This recording
is not the way to hear the true sounds of Genos. Lloyd

Corporate Yamaha are probably upset, as I get the impression that they were trying to move the Genos away from the old fogies brigade (And probably the PSR Tutorial mob as well) to a much more adventuress user base.

Its main bonus is how it will sound in the home, rather than the professionally mastered online demo (Which is never achievable by the normal user) so is good in that respect, plus it shows how the Yamaha speakers still suck big time, and totally castrate the sound.

So the answer to your question is Yes & No.

I am glad this demo was posted as it shows what Genos really sounds like in the REAL world not some dupped up heavily Eq's processed studio version, ...it surly has some nice new features which would make it a very capable arranger KB for many uses. Good luck to all new owners hope to see more in the near future...here's another close your eyes .

Yes, it would have sounded better if it was recorded directly from a mixer but still it was nice to hear the instrument demoed with playing older music. Sometimes it's nice to hear an instrument played by a "regular guy"

If I had a Tyros 4 or 5 or maybe even a 970, and I played older music, I'm not sure I'd get a Genos though.

Oh and BTW, is the vocal effects/harmony on the Genos the same as Tyros 4/5 and psr 950/970? Just curious.

If they would have wanted to really do this, they should have added the features for this..
-daw integration
-onboard sound edditing and creation
-syncing audio with midi
-add a pro version of the arps, with user memmory slots and much more arps..

While yamaha is claiming the Genos to be aimed at the pro market, for composers, studio’s... the features they actually added tell a different story.. they are still aiming at the typical home arranger player...

Now nothingnwrong with that, but they should be honest...

recording with a mic was a mistake. Hearing the key noise really took away from the performance.

I would like to like the Genos...whether I’m getting one or not.

This is the first Genos video I quit watching before it was done..not inspiring at all...unfortunate.

My 4X has such a live band sound...awesome....this sounded more like a poor CD recording.
