Hi Professors, can anyone tell me (or knows) if a KN 5000 drive will work in a KN 6500 keyboard?
I know the discs are compatible, but can the drive be installed in the 6500 ???

Hi Ray, the drive fitted to the KN5000 is quite unique and was used in Technics Kn5, Yamaha, Korg and various other musical instruments. it is not easy to replace because the Drivers used are unique to that disk drive, the one used in the KN 6000/6500 is more likely to be an "Alps " unit, I will do some more digging on what units you can use, Technics Keyboards and Organs have used a lot of different Disk Drives over their time but not many are interchangable
RegardsJohn.

Thanks John, await your digging. The reason for the question is a friend has offered a 5000 drive for another friend's faulty 6500, if it will work.
Disappointed in you Rog, i thought you knew it all !!!!

Hi Ray, done some checking for you,Things you will need to check-out. Firstly he drive in the later KN models is shorter in length by approx 5mm , this is very important with the KN7 as there is only just room in the case for the short drive I am not sure if the length of drive is so critical with a KN6500 the Two drives I have found that work in the KN7 are the Alps DF354H(121G) or the SONY MPF 920 These should work in the KN6500 however NO warenty,
I don't what the Ebay prices are like in Australia, good refreb units sell for about 10/15.00 GBP so are worth trying as they wont break the bank.
Hope this helps your friend Regards John.

Many thanks John, the one available is from a non-functioning KN5000 keyboard. Will just have to try it and see !!!!
