Thanks to all. Maybe my long dormant pedaling skills can now be reactivated in many ways. I am looking to other sound sources now, and not be constricted to my old Nord Electro2. How exciting to have endless possibilities. I am hampered, however, by not having the grasp of midi control many of you have. For example, if I go to one of my other boards like the Pa4X, and set up an organ registration in drawbars, how do I direct the pedal board to a suitable bass sound?

I will just have to dig in and learn it. Game on!

As I always recommend to newbies, get to know Midi by popping along to this site here to get yourself grounded, that way you will be able to understand what all that alien Midi language is in the manual of your instrument.

Have fun

Bill

PS. To warm your legs/feet up you could always do a quick rendition of the melody from Rimsky Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumble Bee on the pedals. grin

Bernie it’s been a while since I had bass pedals, but let me give a try.

1-Thee bass pedals and the Pa4x must talk to each other through the same midi channel.
2-Use one of the 16 channels that is not being used for the Acc. or control, or whatever else is being used.

On my Kn7000 I selected channel 5, if my memory is correct. When I used an external voice harmony the same thing applied; talking to on the same channel.

If you have 6 channels free; that are not being used, you can control 6 different external units. The bass pedals, a sound module, the coffee pot in your kitchen. Well I’m not sure about that last one. (smile)

I bought a book; Simplifying Midi, big help. If you go deeply into what midi can do (control) it can get very complicated. For what you are doing it not too involved.

The best part of Mr. Bernie A. is that he is always moving forward. Nice!

John C,

Thanks Bill and John.
Through the years I have managed to pick up the rudiments of playing with midi modules and master keyboards. In the case of pedals to an arranger, I can't think how to direct a notes on message to a bass sound in the arranger. In other words channel three is routinely used for bass pedals. What do I set up in the arranger to correspond?

Bernie the 3rd channel is for bass which is part of the Acc. Not what you are looking for.
As long as you use a channel that is not being used on the Pa4x and assign the same channel on the bass pedals you’re home.

Take care, John C.

Okay John, in following your example, I have the pedals and midi out on ch 5. There is a pull down with choices. It works on Bass and Lower, both of which duplicates the Chord Bass of the left hand.

I used Accordion 2 preset, ch 5, to Upper 2 voice. I then choose what bass and set volume. It seems to work as intended on the Pa4X. On to lighter organ solutions before I decide for band use. Maybe a Hammond with a third Pedal channel.
