I began "part timing" with a couple of bands in the 60's which eventually turned into working at least every weekend and most holidays for a couple of decades. I now wish I could get those holidays back. In '91 I sold my day-time business and took on a 6 night a week gig at a restaurant. First off, it killed the opportunity to play the better paying once-in-awhile gigs....and secondly, I got burned out in about 11 months. I quit and got back into the weekend business and some assisted living jobs during the week. If you call that "part time", then I can tell you I enjoy part-timing a lot more than working full time in a restaurant setting.

The senior jobs also offer the opportunity to do a variety of things I could never do in a restaurant. Between the variety of music played, the humor, the one on one interaction with audience and the appreciation showed by the audiences, I much prefer being a "part-timer". Another bonus....most of the jobs are during the week and i get weekends off.

Good point Eddie. As much as we all love music, there is a big difference in playing where and when you want to and having to play where you can to feed the family. OTOH, when one gets established, like Don, Donny, Gary, and others. they don't have to scratch for jobs and you are doing something you love. Case in point; I may never hit the big time, but I look forward to and eagerly plan for every engagement. When I no longer do, I hang it up.

Here's an appropriate song that I wrote in about 1976.

Great song Don. I really think it has potential. Maybe send some demos out. I can imagine Willy Nelson doing a great job with it.
