There is a serious ransomware out there. Windows patched it some time ago, but you have to install the patches. Don't forget to let your P.C. update!

Another good reason to have your PC set to perform automatic updates.

Backup, backup and again I say, backup.

Be that to an external hard disc or cloud, or in my case both!

Also take a snapshot of your entire system so that you can recover from a hit by first rebuilding from the snapshot then getting your latest data from your backup.

How do you know? Have you ever run a virus checker to find out, remember Malware doesn’t have to physically show up on your computer, in fact most work in the background gathering information which can be used for other types of attack? (Including any friends you have in your contacts, Facebook, Twitter etc.)

Remember the latest attack only popped up on the news because it was big, it is (And has been) going on for years.

Consider this, 99% of software used in business and industry is on the Windows (Or other) platform, (Video, photo and music being the mainstay on Mac) even though it has not been out as long as the Mac. (If the Mac was that good, why is it not dominant?)

Because Mac products are so expensive could be a good reason. One of the lowest price Mac Book Pro laptops will cost you $1499. Most likely a comparable Windows laptop would quite a few hundred dollars less.

How can you say you have no virus, if you don't test for it... ???

Keep dreaming...

The big advantage of the Mac is that 99% of the virusses are for windows...

But closing your eyes for the retaining 1% is indeed like playing Russian Roulette..

Absolutely. That is what Mac virus writers rely on.

Beware of the latest Windows updates. My wife runs Windows 10 in her laptop and it is set for automatic updates. It spent nearly an hour last night installing new updates, which completely eliminated all her favorites, history and passwords in Firefox. She is PISSED!

No problem at all with 10. I update laptop and PC with no problems. I use Chrome Browser. That way my PC, Laptop, Tablet and phone can all be synced.

Same here , except for one more important step........

I have a 4 Terabyte internal Hard Drive and it is backed up ( byte for byte, zero's and one's ) to an external 4 Terabyte Hard Drive every night....

All this is automatically done with no intervention by me.......I have absolutely no fear of Viruses, malware, etc...

Malware and Viruses are two different beasts, so you need to protect from both. Antivirus software does not always cover Malware. I run Windoze 8.1 with Norton 360 plus Malwarbytes. Not trying to plug any software, just saying, cover your backsides as well as doing your regular backups (as already mentioned above).
Also, clear your cache in your browsers as well as this is where you leave the best bread crumbs for the hackers and phishing thieves to get their hands on your lifestyle choices.
There are viruses out there for all systems - PC, MAC and Linux too so no one is safe. I have been in the IT game since 1988 and an IT Network Engineer for over 13 and believe me, they teach the programmers how to make these viruses in Uni. So that they will know how to recognize them and how to make antivirus programs.
And yes, you guessed it, there are some that decide to make their own ones to "see what they will do".
