I know both are supposedly sub standard but which do you think is superior between the 2?

Yamaha is almost not even worth mentioning when it comes to harmonies.

Substandard compared to what ... I think the VH in the Pa900 is pretty good ...

I bought a S970, had it my home for six weeks. Took a loss and bought the Pa4x. The S970 has some great features; almost thought of keeping both but my mind did not allow me to work with two different O.S. I am happy I made the change to the Pa4x.

The vocal harmony and a lot of other things are better in the Pa4x.

Having been a yamaha fan since 2005 i switched to a pa600 korg for the last year. Sold it last month. Went to the music shop to try the psr s970 and i am still in shock. I wanted to like it..heck i even put telmos eq settings into it and to me i couldnt be more disapponted. It sounds weakish.. the keyfeel after the pa600 now i understand when people say it has a toyish key feel. I spent a solid hour playing it and am close to deciding that it may be the end of the road for me with yamaha. The drums are weak, the flutes and sax sound same as my old old psr s900... can the psr s970 be given more ooomph with better eq settings and voice eq?? Im somehow still willing to give it another go...is it maybe the korgs have better speakers? I dont know...

Believe me, you can do a lot with the global EQ settings, and some minor adjustments on the mic settings. When I first received my S-950 I was very unsatisfied with what I heard right out of the box. Then I spent the next week tweaking and tuning, and I loved what I heard, and so did my audiences.

Now, I have not been able to get my hands on a PA4X at this point, but maybe I'll sneak over to Don Mason's this winter and give it a shot.

Good luck on whatever you decide upon,

Gary cool

I've had 'em all. PA900 harmonizer is excellent. PSR S970 harmonizer is usable after a lot of tweaking.
PA4X has it all, but it costs a lot more. It's worth it to me.

Nothing substandard about the PA 4X harmonizer. Don't know about the PA 900.

Is the soprano sax dnc on the pa900 similar sounding to the psr s970 sweet soprabo sax where when u hold the key down it expands and becomes louder

internal speakers I guive the nod to Yamaha s970

where the korg lacks is in the amount of styles available vs yamaha..there are workarounds, conversions, third party styles, create & record your own, etc if your willing to do the work for your needs,.....honestly you cant go wrong with either korg or yamaha at this point as we really dont have many arranger choices anymore like years ago....good luck

If you want decent harmony stay away from Yamaha. They don't even know what decent harmony sounds like. I produced a Cd with a rented PA 800 and the harmonies were good. The 900 took away one of the voices but I'm sure it's still good.
Here's one of my songs with the Korg harmonies.

Sounds professional. Maybe adjusting the master comp/eq can make the s970 sound more closer to pa900. I was onlu using telmos eq settings... i forgot abt the master eq

Best tip for Yamaha harmonizer is to use the compressor and only use 1 harmony voice. It struggles with more, and needs the signal to be level to be effective. It's not awful, but it's close to the bottom of the pack of what's available.
