When you ask me, having an intuitive high quallity touchscreen is a huge pro for an arranger. it allows so much more flexibillity...

Now over on the PSR tutorial forums there is still a huge chunck of Tyros Old timers, that think that buttons to the sides of the screen are still a far better solution then a high quallity touchscreen...

I think a few years ago, many on our synthzone forum would have agreed to that, but since then i think the general opinion on these boards changed.. with pa4x, SD7, Casio, Wersi, Kronos, Montage, Yamaha CVP and even Roland G70 showing how an intuitive high end touchscreen interface can add flexibillity to oeperating an arranger...

So whats your opinion on touchscreens for arrangers?

With the older style touchscreens that required a harder touch and got a less positive response, I may have agreed with the naysayers, but not now.

Touch screens rule smile
The G70 touch screen is a perfect example, shows how a quality touch screen should interface with the OS.

I don't care for the new Korg touch screen...pop ups are annoying, I think the pop up design is for afterthought data..
It becomes as bad as menu driven displays..

For a non touch screen keyboard, the E-A7 with it's dual displays working in conjunction with each other, maintains the flow, making better use than the pop ups on Korg..

I believe all top of the line keyboards should have touch screens..just design them better.

Speaking of touch screens, I thought I my vArranger2 deserves a larger touch screen. I went from a 13.3 to a 15.6 tablet notebook. Since it's a convertible, I can place it on a mustic stand like Dan does. Many functions and sounds can be called up easily by touching the screen.

Touchscreens are here to stay and Yamaha will most likely include
a touchscreen on their new modela. You still have the buttons so
use either one.

Once you use a touchscreen, you will change your mind about
buttons. Lloyd

Luv the touch screens.
Dragged the pa800 out of mothballs so the granddaughter could have a play.
Not responsive like the pa3x/4x.
Happy Bernie mentioned the old screens weren't as good, I thought something was wrong at first.

The rare occasion I play the PSR, I keep forgetting, tapping the screen is not going to get me very far..
Then all of a sudden a little voice in the head says, try pushing a button.
Strangely enough, that works. Haha

Seems we all agree then on touchscreens being a blessing....

So why is it so hard to convince some of teh very loyal Yamaha crowd of this...
Some very influential long time Yamaha community members are almost begging Yamaha not to add touchscreens to their arrangers...

They are afraid of change that takes them out of their comfort zone. (Hence the reason the sales of the T5 have been a flop compared to earlier generations) The same happened when organs moved from tab operation to button and menu operation, the traditionalist (Usually more mature) were up in arms, however these days nobody bats an eyelid, as players have moved on.

I hope the new succesor of the Tyros , the Genos will have a large touch screen .
With a good interface there is no need fore any button , but that is the future .
I always hoped that there will be a nice app fore a I-pad to edit the T5 but thats also too much for Yamaha.
It is time fore a Big change in the High end Yamaha keyboards , the sound is great but there is a lot to improve in handling the voice editing and the VH .And a smaller footprint and weight is also a isue .

Impuls cool

Not really a flop, T5 (61) sales where lower as the T4 sales, but the new 76 key version made up for the difference... total sale now are close to total T4 sales...

The only thing that did not happen was a growth in sales...which happened with all the previous models..

I think the absence of a touch screen & dismal VH2 on T5 lowered sales considerably compered to the rest of the market.

Why a product sells good or average allways depends on many things, these two certainly witheld some people i know from buying a T5...
