Got a request to do the Hank Williams song Kaw Liga.

I don't know if there's any style out there that would work on the PA 4X? Suggestions?

This is the song:

being its a double tempo song requiring two performance style setups to toggle to & from, or create a backing sequence,...or I'd just improvise & play it free style Piano w/Lh Bass make it your own.

I'll see what I can come up with when I get a chance. Haven't tried it on the Korg yet.

Tx Don. It was a request, otherwise I wouldn't mess with it.

I'm guessing some PSR person has made one for the Yammie.

Tx again.

Hi Rog
Bit off topic, but I gather you used a number of user created SongStyles on your PSR.?

Not really a big fan of EMC style conversion software( even though I've owned and updated it since about 1990).

I answered a post on Korg forum the other day where a guy wanted to convert a huge number of PSR song styles to Korg using PA4x song to style convertor, unfortunately it doesn't work for song styles only song midifiles. ( Won 't go into detail , I did that over there). He was considering a Korg only if his PSR styles could be converted.

Anyway got me thinking, decided to give EMC a go with some old PSR song style someone gave me a few years ago. Put them thru, and I was quite surprised that they sounded reasonably ok.
Bit of a tweak with volume and new instruments, and possibly quite useable. They were'nt songs I would normally play, do didn't bother editing further.

These were really simple user created song styles ( I assume) because while I was doing them , I accidently did a folder of s950 factory styles and they sounded awful.

If you don't have EMC yourself, happy to put some thru the conversion process.
It batch converts a complete folder in just minutes, so wouldn't be any trouble.
Tweaking, I'd leave up to you. Haha.

Rikki,

Tx for the response. With Yamaha, I did use a fair number of user created styles. So far with the PA 4X I haven't needed those. I've found a PA 4X style for almost every song I do. And in most cases, I actually like the 4X style better or have found the 4X styles pretty easy to edit to my needs. As in the case of Kaw Liga, I found a 4X style that works.

Also, I'm not familiar with the conversion program you mention. But then, I'm new to this.

Tx again,

Rog

Believe it or not, I had a request for Kawliga Friday night and was NOT prepared to do it. But of course I did it anyway. I guess you could safely say I "made it my own". smile
I have decided to share it here, as an example of what a guy will do for a ten buck tip. I grabbed a style, actually one I use for Polk Salad Annie, slowed it way down, guessed at the key and played it. Well I guessed wrong so changed the key from Em to Dm after the first verse. There are a lot of mistakes, including one place where my foot was accidentally toggling the vocal harmony switch, but guess what, the people who requested it were totally happy!

Thanks guys. Kawliga was originally a Hank Williams song. My favorite version is by Ronnie Milsap, and I had the pleasure of hearing him do it live twice. He puts on a wonderful show, climbing on top of his piano with a mic in hand and getting precariously close to the edge. That's pretty adventurous for a blind person!
Not trying to steal this post btw, but it's all relative, sort of. smile

First time I saw Ronnie, he was on a show with Charlie Pride and Merle Haggard. Merle was the headliner and the other two were relatively new, but they nearly stole the show. Then Merle came out and did about two dozen number one hits without even pausing between songs!
When he mentions Hawk, that is, or was at least, his drummer.
At one time, I could hold that note that long too. Not any more. smile

Hi Rog,
Basically it's a style conversion program, converts one brand of keyboard style to another.
Used to use it years back , when I was forever swapping keyboards. Gave me a sense of security that if I swapped boards, I could at least have some of the styles.
Don 't think I ever used them, the new keyboards always had better styles. Haha

In the last few years I haven't used it because the new styles are too complex . The few I had tried converting needed too much work to bother with.

I got far better results converting them manually from a midifile.
I have a few core style conversions that I tweak up each time I upgrade my Korgs.

Only reason I mentioned it was, just in case you had the odd song style you hadn't found a replacement for. Some of the yammie song styles appeared to convert ok , compared to the factory style conversions.

Brilliant Don

Actually I didn't recognise the song title, but after hearing it, I remember it from way back.

Don,

Enjoyed your Kaw Liga version. I think I'm going to have to learn to upload songs as many of you do.

After listening to Don's version, I tried out a number of styles on my 4X and found a number of styles that I think worked well. Settled on a version of Easy Strumming that I edited as a favorite.

On another note, one of my concerns when I got the 4X, was for songs with 'specialized' styles.

But the more I use the 4X, the more versatile I find it to be. Just love all the options for live play and styles on the 4X.

Never say never, but I'm thinking I may have found the keyboard(my 4X) that I will be playing the rest of my gigging days. smile

Tx Rikki again for the info.

For the first time in decades, I'll be home for Christmas, sitting in front of the gas log and watching my grandson and children open their presents. I'm looking forward to it.

Donny, I keep musically busy on the boat, in my head, and while I'm at home I play that S-950 nearly every day for at least an hour. It helps maintain what little sanity I have remaining. wink
