[quote=Dnj]have you ever wondered or does it bother you when you think the audience is saying to themselves.....especially a younger one,
"Hey, Look at that OLD GUY playing on stage" !! eek2

Sometimes no matter how good you think you are you might have these grandpa thoughts in your head. Or you might have thought the same thing watching someone else too,....
so when is it time to pass the torch

Donny
It is on my mind for a lot of situations. Playing for an adult crowd not so much but others yes .I thought I'd be out of the business by 40, then 50 and now ? There is a perception out there not only among audiences but more important on those doing the hiring. Still truckin along but in a lower gear ! LOL !

I put my first band together 63 years ago and I am still playing. I've got three keyboards and seven guitars; Life is good.

It’s good having a place to share your thoughts and feelings.

Donny ... yes, I have thought that at times, but as Bill said, only with 'younger' crowds ...
The time to 'pass the torch' will be when I am no longer getting gigs - OR am physically unable to do it ...

also sometimes playing at home JUST FOR YOURSELF will give you more satisfaction as the magic of music lives inside us & you can make it happen on stage or in your heart and soul .

Very nicely put Donny. Yes I am enjoying playing for myself more now and am even considering a new TOTL digital piano. Just getting back to the sound of a good piano is something I got away from for a long time.

A couple of years ago, a young girl (30...that's young to me)said to her date,"If you don't look, he sounds much younger and better looking than he really is (don't look, Ethyl)".

Damnit, she's right. All I could do is laugh my a** off. At least is sounded OK.

I could be wrong, but....

I think if you knock out an audience with outstanding music and presentation, they're not going to care how old you look. They're going to be so caught up with what they're hearing, they won't have time to think about, or even care about, that awful three letter word....age!

Years ago, Mama Leone's restaurant in NYC used to have a mantra: "Give them good food and plenty of it and they'll come back for more." Substitute the word music for food and there's something to think about.

But you'd really have to be a powerhouse player to do that. As for me I don't have the energy or the enthusiasm anymore!
