Hi All,

I am currently using the S910 and thinking of upgrading to the S970. I am getting the S950 for much cheaper (obviously). If someone could go over what are the major differences between the two (S950 Vs S970) and is it worth spending the extra $$?

I thank you all in advance!

Out of my head

- beter dsp so it sounds much better after all
- more user memmory and easier accesible for your own sounds
- more sounds and styles
- much better screen
- deejay styles
-arpeggiator
- 2 assignable knobs... Offer a lot of realtime possibillities
- has got the latest processing inside (same as the upcomming montage)

And probably some more.... But that can be filled in by people that allready upgraded from 950 to 970

Some other differences are....

PSR S950 25 Audio Styles vs
PSR S970 40 Styles

Flash Memory for Expansion Packs
PSR S950 64 Megs
PSR S970 512 Megs only 8 times more memory. eek2

Tone generation on the String choir section, now it has several REAL human choirs that in the PSR S950 did not.
Besides the differences already mention like from 5 inch LED Screen to 7 inch TFT Screen, 2 Live controls, much better DSP (Digital Signal Processors=Effects), more styles, more voices, etc.....

Just my 2 cents.... smile

The S970 uses the brand new chip (also used by Montage, not yet by Tyros 5), hence the huge leap in the waveROM memory.

Having owned arranger keyboards with semi-weighted keys, and an electric piano with fully weighted keys, I wouldn't even consider anything other than the lightweight touch of the PSR-S950 and other PSR keyboards. When you play every day for a living, 3 to 4 hours a day, 5 to 7 days a week, your hands and arms will thank you for those lighter keys. And lets be real, it's not the keys that make the difference - it's the person playing those keys. Key weight, IMO, has absolutely no bearing on musicianship. Now I know this will stir the usual comments about expression, but this is just my opinion and opinions vary.

Joe Ayala, who recently passed away and was a very good friend of mine, is an incredible piano player, owned a Yamaha Baby Grand, but when he went to work, even in places that had a piano, he played his S-950, and those who were here for the Synthzone Jam a couple years ago, know just how well Joe played and sang. He was among the best I ever heard.

Cheers,

Gary cool

In my guitar playing days(55 years)I played acoustic guitar/mandolin. All the dynamics had to do with hand strength.

My 65 year old brother, who has played acoustic piano since he was 12, retired this year from many years of teaching. He bought a Yamaha acoustic piano for his retirement years.

The point is, using hand strength to effect dynamics on an acoustic instrument...be that of guitar or acoustic piano...those says are numbered. I still have visions of me playing bluegrass mandolin or guitar...ain't going to happen.

Dynamics can still happen on an electric instrument. My Les Paul playing buddy has known that since he was 17. He is now in his 60's and continues to make great music on a Marshall stack through a Les Paul.

Maybe the hardest part of giving up 'perceived' control of an instrument is letting go of control by hand strength.

I didn't start out on piano, so I don't associate dynamics with control by hand. That's not true of stringed instruments for me. It's still difficult for me to play electric guitar because my brain tells me that volume and dynamics are controlled by my hand strength.

However, with my S970 and Tyros, it only seems natural to control volume/dynamics by controlling a volume knob.
