This is a chill-out type meditation on the German Advent charol "Die Nacht ist vorgedrungen" ("Night has progressed") sung during the 4 weeks before Christmas.
All instruments played on Yamaha MoXF including its flash libraries (here Garritan GPO Lite for Motif).

No, I wanted the melody to stay in the background, it's a meditation. You can probably find many traditional versions on Youtube I guess.

I've never heard this tune before, but I enjoyed it very much. Beautiful music played beautifully. Even the lyrics are very poetic and beautiful. It is refreshing to hear at the beginning the rendition of the simple and yet haunting melody without any backup.

Absolutely outstanding. Very beautiful, haunting melody and expertly played.

Thanks a lot for your nice comments! The melody is really haunting especially with the interesting changes, I remember when we played it with our church brass ensemble many years ago, I thought this could be turned into a movie soundtrack. And here, the MoXF with its additional libraries is a great instrument to make it sound good.

Rosetree, I was just wondering why you chose to use Garritan strings instead of DSF Strings?

Also, which instruments come from the Garritan, and which from the MoXF?

Thanks!

Your rendition made me take a look at the MOXF but I quickly said to myself, "No more toys, it is not the tool, but the person who made the beautiful music." LOL Trying to free myself from gear lust. (BTW,I have all the Garritan libraries.)

I thought about this tune and the title of it as I played my gig today. Among the tunes that I played were Silent Night..., It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, O, Holy Night, and then this song Die Nacht.... Not only beautiful but very meaningful. The Christmas Birthday Boy came at night while the world was in its darkness.

@Torch: Nice to know the carol was part of your program. Yes, it is meaningful, and the melody reflects the special Advent atmosphere in a very deep, mythical way.

@Mikem:
I prefer the Garritan large strings when I need a warm, lush section. Actually, the strings voice I programmed includes both the Garritan waveform element as well as a section strings waveform from the Motif. For small strings I like DSF very much, but for some reason the larger DSF strings sound a bit static to me, maybe because there is no 'swelling dynamics' within the sample like in Garritan.
Here in this tune, Garritan sounds are
-strings (as I said, only 1 element of the voice)
-woodwinds
-French horns.
Directly from the MoXF presets are
-steel and nylon guitar
-soprano sax (bank 9, i.e. new Motif XF voice)
Additionally, there is the
-S700 piano for Motif XS (included in the free "Inspiration in a Flash" package).

Thanks very much, Rosetree, for taking the time to answer my questions!

By the way, good job on that carol!
