Hi gang,

Doing some research into the 970...

A few questions...

1) I currently use a Tyros 2. Will my registrations from the T2 work on the 970, or will I have to start from scratch?

2) I had a psr 3000 about ten years ago and never felt comfortable with it and eventually dumnped it for something else. I recall that the 3000 seemed SO different to me from the T1 at the time, I never could make it work to my satisfaction.

3) How do the various attributes (overall sound, piano, playability, low end, etc...) of the 970 compare to the T2?

I plan on test driving one in the next few weeks, but I like to hear from as many people as possible when considering a new board...

Thansk in advance!

Bill

How important is the keybed in a keyboard to you?
I believe 970 has the same one as 950, which I think is horrible. And T2 has a great action keys.

Bill: There are some pretty good topics already posted as to the virtues of the 970. Check them out and give one a test drive. I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I'm usually pretty adept at moving from one keybed to another. I don't recall that being the biggest negative about the psr-3k.

Trying to remember yesterday is getting tougher and tougher. Trying to remember what I disliked about the 3K is even harder. The display was a big issue for me but the 970 seems to have addressed that nicely.

Bill, the big disadvantage with the 3000 was the lack of memory and it's inability to access the MFD via the USB drive. And, of course, the screen visibility in bright light. All of those things have been addressed, plus the 950 and 970 have so many incredible, new styles and voices, it is well ahead of the T2 in that respect. Additionally, the onboard sound system is really incredible sounding, and powerful enough to play many small venues without taking in a PA system. Living-room parties and small assisted living venues can easily be done with the onboard sound system alone. One of the features I really enjoy is the addition of the USB onboard recorder, which is first class. Some say the keyfeel is a bit firmer than the 3000, but the part number for the keypad is the same as the S-950 and I suspect the design has not really changed. However, as you well know, those of us that play every day of the week enjoy the lighter touch of the PSR series. Added to the above features is the lighter weight, which when get as old as Don Mason, makes life a lot easier setting up and tearing down, which to me is the hardest part of the job, and of course, the least fun.

Good luck,

Gary cool

Bill I would say it would be better to setup the New S970 from scratch for the most part...I love the lightweight keybed..depending on the styles your using on your T2......yes you can probably load most of the reg data sounds styles etc, but due to the Mega,Sa,Audio styles, and other data you will have to go in and re-tweak many of your setups which isn't a problem and in the long run will sound alot better. I'd say just go for it and enjoy the S970, the lightweight benefit and VH2, Bigger display, is a plus also vs T2,...... Give Frank at AUDIOWORKSCT call he'll do you right for sure..

All my registrations from S950 work just fine on the 970.
