Remember, you asked for it. This is why I don't sing.

Singing "Dream" and "Any Time".

Deane, not bad. With a bit of training, you could increase your range and vocal control very easily. Most community colleges offer a non-credit course in Voice and Articulation for singers. You already have a good start on this, and I'm quite confident you would really do great. Even at the level you are at right now the ADs and residents would love ya!

All the best,

Gary cool

Well I think both songs sound really good. Particularly considering you haven't been doing it much. Just do it, you'll gain confidence and get better and better.
You should not be afraid to sing in front of anyone! Love the sound of your voice.

Deane I'm confused after hearing these vocals demos why you have been depriving your audiences of your singing abilities. Personally I think you should start singing more & more at your gigs it adds a BIG dimension to your act for sure. Start by adding a few songs to the program and each giog add a few more until your singing every song, I'm sure they will love it once you build your vocal confidence and hear the applause after each tune..

Good Luck..

I wouldn't mind adding a singing song or two to my sets right now but I have to get the correct mic settings for the SD7 get some practice in. We'll see.

Deane, whatever the settings and mic you used sounded just fine - stick with them.

Deane you just improved your act 101%. Without adding and improving you will find heads turning and more appreciation.

Your voice quality is good; what you need is experience.

I sense new excitement coming. At this age something new and exciting does not happen often. You have not said but I bet your excitement level has gone up a lot.

Cheers to you, John C.

Deane.......I would have to agree with all of the above comments. You certainly surprised me with your singing.

One thing though that I need to ask you.

I listened to Anytime (btw, one of my favorite songs) first. It was quite respectable, but not enough life in your voice. Then I listened to Dream and you more than made up for it.

So, the question is.....why you didn't put that kind of energy into Anytime? You're obviously capable of it!

Aside from that, again.....I was very impressed with your singing, especially since you said you've not had a lot of experience doing it.

Deane I’m going to step out here. I read your personality to fairly progressive; this will eventually be expressed in your singing.

Most singers start with little confidence; with time their true nature surfaces. You’re gonna do just fine – and I’m looking forward to that.

Please post more singing songs, John C.

Well, thanks to everyone for the kind comments and suggestions. I guess I'll add a few singing songs to my gigs this week and see how well they go over.

Hi Deane,

Not too long ago I only did instrumentals music. Little by little I started adding vocals to my OMB act. I'm now able to do gigs that before I couldn't. I am sure your audience and AD will absolutely love your vocals!

Montuoman,
You are right. I have run across ADs who will not hire anyone who does not
sing. I don't mind giving it a try.

Deane - by all means keep the singing going on! Glad you are taking the plunge as vocals really spice things up. Sounds like you are well on your way! I haven't ventured there yet and commend you for the work you have done! Keep up the good work!

For a guy who just got started you're awfully close to where you want to be. As Gary said, the stage you are at now is quite acceptable to your audiences.

God Bless,
Don

Also try "memorizing the songs and lyrics" so you can give full freestyle eye contact and a better stage presence to your audiences and you can generate that performer to audience to performer battery charge back & forth,.....it all makes makes for a better show.

I know you can do it for sure

good luck!

I wish I could remember all the lyrics to all the songs I perform, which is nearly 4,000 songs. Most of the time, the lyrics are in my head, but there are times when I need those lyrics, sometimes with the chord changes. That's why I purchased that small laptop that sits upon my custom console. It's small enough to non-intrusive, the audience really doesn't notice it at all, and it keeps screw-ups to a minimum.

Good luck,

Gary cool

Gary, you make me nervous looking at that water jug (it IS water, right?) perched up there.

It's a tip jug - no water near the keyboard.

Hi Deane:

Nothing wrong with your vocal abilities. Practice makes perfect and if you are shy about performing (like me) it can be overcome.
I'm a songwriter and feel pretty comfortable about singing in the quiet of my own little studio... but would never attempt to perform in public like my Arranger Heroes here at "the Zone."

Gary has made some really good suggestions and I may follow through and do what I can to increase my range and confidence.

Best of luck... and keep on keeping on!

Deanne ... I have to agree with the positive statements above ... you probably should have been singing all along ...
Just 2 comments: in Dream, you might not want to hold those whole notes for the full count, especially since you are doing it as an up tempo song ... it will also give you space to breathe... also, as you work on expanding your range, don't be afraid to use the 'transpose' button down a half step during performances, until you are totally comfortable with the original key you want to sing in ...
Hoping to hear more ... singer keys
