Hello everyone!
I will probably be absent for a month or two from the forums. On Wednesday, July 8th, I will undergo MAJOR Lumbar Spine Surgery on L4, L5, and S1. Doctors said it has now become urgent and will take about 4-5 hours. I will return as soon as I am able and wanted to keep my forum friends informed.

Thanks again,
Deane

Deane,
The best for a quick recovery, getting on in years is not easy.

How is it possible for you to handle (Transport) the SD7 considering its weight?

I know this is a major issue for me, even when I feel good.

A prayer for you on the 8th, John C.

Doggone, Deane:

I was thinking all this back problem stuff was behind you. Welcome to the club. I've had to give up golf but thankfully can still write and record songs on the Yamaha 910 and play chess twice weekly at the Glen Rose Center. Keep us posted when you have time... and remember, you are in my prayers.

First and most important I want to sincerely thank everyone who sent their best wishes and prayers to me. It really did mean a lot to me.

I am now home and everything went very well. The doctor expects no complications unless I do something dumb and injure myself at home. I had to cancel gigs through September because included in the long list of "Don'ts" are things like lifting anything, sitting for more than 30 minutes at a time, driving, and bending forward from the waist. I figure this will give me a great opportunity to get down and dirty with my new Ketron SD7 and get it just right for my gigs.

Although the surgery experience was great the night I stayed at the hospital was a total nightmare. Neither my wife nor I slept at all once I got to my room. Nor did I eat anything because I had a severe upset stomach. The first thing my wife did when we got home was to head for the couch where she is now napping. I am about to fall into bed after posting this. I had to wear hosiery which fit from my toes to my groin and over them was another long device that helped circulation in my legs. It keeps blood clots from forming. It would go on and off about every 45 seconds putting pressure all along my legs.

I will keep the group updated as the weeks pass. For now all seems ok and I sure hope it stays that way.

Thanks again,
Deane

Deane:

I suspect you are experiencing some pain, frustration and sleep deprivation... but thanks for advising us about the success of the surgery. Staying in such a state until September is going to tax your tenacity to the core. Especially the no driving part!

Keep us posted of your progress... and exercise caution in all directions. In time, you'll be "good as new!"

Continued prayers and best wishes,

Dave Rice

Bowel issues that cause pain. Might have to call the doc tomorrow. Actually my back does not hurt a lot.

Hope you do well. And use the air socks to keep the blood clots away. I've got a huge one after last years surgery that is not going to go away. I think we may need to form a new spinal repair/nerve damage sub category soon here . you, me, Gary...

Wow! Today could not have been better! Around 3PM totally unexpected, in walked my daughter, her husband, and my twin 6 year old granddaughters. Then about an hour later in walked my son and his wife. So I got to spend most of the day with all the people I love most in my life and who make life worth living. On top of this wonderful surprise I have felt pretty good today and was able to participate in the usual conversations when families gather.

It was time to change my surgery dressing and much to our surprise the twins were the most interested asking all kinds of cool questions about the stitches, how they got on my back, what did the doctor do, why did he do it. Pretty neat stuff. My wife answered all the questions and the girls were totally spell bound. I was given a link by the hospital to a website that explains the procedure I got. It shows the skeleton, the stenosis issue, what it takes to fix the problem - nothing gruesome - all in very good taste. The girls learned about our skeleton and nerves. What a fantastic learning opportunity for them. One of them ask us "Can I be a Doctor?" How neat is that folks.

Well, I've gone on to long here. Maybe tomorrow will be even better - but I doubt it.

Deane
