Finally! It sounds great! And at 4:13, you can hear a children's choir, just like on the Tyros 5. I hope it has even more choir sounds.

Can't wait for it to be in stores so I can try it!

Thank you, Donny!

P.S. I think choosing an arranger keyboard just became harder. smile

They added the effects section of the T5 which is reallly high quallity

Love the deejay section and arpeggiator for the right hand and the two knobs... Might finally allow to play and create some 21st century dance music on stage... Pretty sure we will also see this in the Tyros 5 replacement...

Yet still missing sa2 voices, organ world, ensemble voices...

It would be fair if they pit a price on the s970 comparable to the MOXF6... As production costs are probably under $150 and development costs of this keyboard that has nothing new to offer is allready payed by other instruments..

Here's the much awaited Data Lists for both models (PSR-S970/770):

Nice seeing some of the newer Tyros 5 features filtering down to these new arrangers.

Those new live controls and arpeggiator, not found on the Tyros 5, look very useful for dance and more contemporary type music. Perhaps working its way to the Tyros 6 model.

Looking forward to the dozen or so brand new S970 styles I can eventually add to my Tyros 5. Still don't understand why Yamaha limits expansion memory size, but limited or improved expansion is better than no expansion at all. Let's hope the most of the YEM issues were ironed out from the Tyros 5. Still a very good mid range arranger.

Looks like a useful update! ...especially if you don't have a 950 and like Yammies. Love those lead guitar sounds.

The guitars and epianos and drums are those things that probably get the most from the hugely improved efects section...

a comparison of the voice lists for the S950 and S970 this afternoon, and here are the details. My apologies for any errors here; the compilation process was a little error-prone since I was extracting text from the Data List PDF's using pdftotext. Most of the list data below were automatically printed out by a script I wrote.

One of the changes was that a lot of voices are spelled differently now, mostly due to the voice names not being as abbreviated. For example, "SynStrings" becomes "SynthStrings". Perhaps this was partly motivated by the larger screen (more characters)? I did not list here any voices that had the same program numbers and voice type but which merely had a different name.

Of course I could not determine what changes have been made to the actual voice waveforms. smile

These lists include all voices, including those in the Legacy and GM/XG/GM2 categories.

The inclusion of the new sound effects voices is welcome. That was one of the disappointments on the PSR-S950 -- that some (but not all) of the sound effects voices had a similar poor quality compared to those on my 19-year-old PSR-520.

Organ Flutes Changes:
With the PSR-S970, Yamaha changed the program numbers for the OrganFlutes presets, so that the presets all have unique MSB/LSB/PC values. On the PSR-S950, the Organ Flutes presets all shared the same MSB/LSB/PC. This theoretically should be a welcome enhancement for folks using MIDI. Here are the new OrganFlutes presets, 10 or 11 total:
BalladEuro
BrightEuro
ClassicJazz (not sure if this is really new -- I think it is a placeholder to support MIDI data using the old MSB/LSB/PC values)
EuroAccomp1
EuroAccomp2
EuroAccomp3
EuroPerc
EuroPops
EuroReeds
EuroWarmth
FullEuro

Voices that changed type, total 44 (these are all switches to stereo samples. Note that some of these, particularly most of the drum kits, were already sampled in stereo on the S950, so Yamaha has just changed the teminology on them):
