Boo,

By coincidence, Consumer Reports did a review of the “free” anti-virus packages in the July 2015 issue.

Ratings as follows:

Top of the list went to: Avira (Free Antivirus 2015)

Next was AVD (AntiVirus Free 2015)

And then…..Avast (Free Antivirus 2015)

Last on the list was Microsoft Windows 8.1 with Defender

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the second place anti-virus was supposed to read "AVG" instead of "AVD".

I've been using AVG for quite some time and it's very good indeed.

Mark, I have sent you a Private Message...please check.

Mark, thanks! I read a similar report some time back and switched to Avira from Avast or AVG. Can't remember.

There are test’s done by various bodies and magazines during the year, and as manufactures are continually updating their programs (Not just the definitions) at different times of the year, the No.1 spot is constantly changing, therefore just swapping a program because on 1 report is pointless, (Unless it is really bad) as it will vary over the year.

If you stick with one of the top 3, you should be fine in normal use, however never use 2 of the same type of anti-virus/malware programs together, as in most cases your protection actually reduces rather than improves, due to them interfering with each other.

Enjoy Surfing
