Had a quick listen to two of 'em (i'm cooking supper). They're Korg styles.

Maybe Bill is trying to show us how good a budget instrument sounds these days... I would go for Korg PA300 or maybe the new Havian 30

Korg PA 600 !

Both of the styles I listened to are in my Pa1xPro.

That's why I suspect it's the Havian 30, especially since it is the newest arranger by Korg.

Another option might also be that it are Korg styles used on the Varranger... Dan really put a lot of effort in the compatibillity for Korg styles of lately..

Problem with V/arranger is that you never know what soundsource one is using... But some of the sounds like one of the guitars just dont sound very Korg to me..

Maybe it's the effects on the guitar that make it sound different?

It could be, however it could also be an older Korg like the i30 or pa80... I dont think the essence of the Korg PA sound has changed much over the last decade..

This is what makes it so hard to guess the model, even now, from PA300 to PA3x all instruments have basically the same sound engine.. Which is basically an evolved version from the engine in al previous PA arrangers.. And possibly even the i30

One can assume from the posts that the manufacture is correct, but we still don’t know which model. (Some SZ members have one)

Steve McNally of Korg uses example 1 in his PA600 Video Tutorial Series Titled "Part 1: Introduction and Navigation".

Thats extremely hard by ear, for obvious reasons called above, they all use the same engine and many of the same samples and styles.. ( for probably over a decade) as Korg mostly innovated their products by keeping the same engine ...as explained above..

It could be any Korg arranger of the pa series or even the i30...

Well its gone quiet so one can assume everyone has given up on identifying the model.

The most interesting part of this conversation was how many thought of this board as an entry level model, rather than (In its day) being TOTL, which is good to see, as it means great sounds can now be had even if you don't have a lot of dosh.

It also shows just how far TOTL instruments have significantly improved since this model was introduced. (If they hadn't the gap would have been much narrower)

As to the board, well it is the Korg PA1/PA1x. (Which you have to admit still sounds good even though it falls short of the latest TOTL models)

Personally I think Korgs best board to date is the PA2x, as it has more features than the PA1x and a much better output stage, which really brings the sounds to life, (Adding an external DAC/digital mixer to the PA1x and using the digital out’s will also give you a significant improvement in its sound quality) as to the PA3x, then it just loses synergy and sounds more like a work in progress rather than a completed instrument. (I also feel the same about the midrange PA900 compared to the PA800, the new PA300/600 though are really something special)

It will come as no surprise to most of you that I am backing up every word Abacus is saying here. What's more, if you realize that in those days the TOTL arranger was in essence the same as the 'scaled down version' ( PA1X = PA80 = PA50 ), ( PA2X= PA800)
I will even go as far as to say that all that you have heard in the demos what can be achieved with the Korg Micro Arranger, which is identical in Rom samples and styles to the PA80 and PA50 and subsequently the PA1X. ( not taking into account the use of external RAM samples, of which the PA1X can host 128Mb ).
I guess he also mentions one of the main reasons why I have stuck with my PA800 rather than updating.
But what seems to me one of the main things we can learn from this is the fact that every arranger keyboard owner who does not play Korg should add the Korg Micro Arranger to his or her set up............and of course my KMA Resources

People keep in mind that you do not have to own the newest board to sound good,if you program a good style with the correct level mix down, it will sound good on mostly all old keyboards. John I do have the KMA and I think it is the best backup board of all time.
