18- 24" feet here tonight along the NJ shore ...
its coming down hard for the next 12 hrs 2-4" an hour surprised

the NJ coast is going to see heavy N/NE winds when this low gets cranking near the benchmark. Gusts to 40-50mph are possible. Beach erosion a definite with minor coastal flooding possible along the barrier islands of the Jersey Shore. Once winds switch to more of a northerly flow, the concern will subside but until then, E/NE flow will be pushing water in.

Thanks chas ...
About 12" so far in East Greenwich RI ... further North and West up to 30" ...
Hunkered down in the house ... enough food, beverages, and wood to ride this out ...
Fortunately, next gig isn't until Friday night ...
No shrimp or steaks on the barby for a couple of days at least ...

Well, life IS about CHOICES, and we've chosen a Mediterranean cruise later in the year and a trip somewhere else with the family, over a vaca in FL this winter ... now if Gary could land me a gig at one of those tiki bars, that MIGHT be a different story ...

The tv idiots are sounding really disappointed in the fact that the blizzard mostly missed NYC. They are jumping on officials for preparing for it. Of course if they didn't prepare for it, and it did as predicted, they would jump on them for that too!

Tony, this place is a ghost town after the end of April - you could shoot a cannonball down US1 and you wouldn't hit anything. Everyone leaves, mistakenly believing that it's gonna get real hot and humid when summer arrives. In reality, the weather is cooler here and the humidity is lower here than it is in Baltimore, Philly, and where Donny lives in Central New Jersey.

So, finding you a job would be somewhat difficult, unless you travel to Miami or Key West, those towns stay pretty active year round.

Don, ain't it amazin how the press thrives on sensationalizing the weather. Now they're all pissed off and condemning everyone for gearing up for a bad story, and those bleeding-heart, liberal, reporters were the very people that started all this crap in the first place. Had it not been for them, there would not have been a run on bread, milk and toilet paper at the grocery stores, and a run on snow blowers, ice melt, plows and shovels at Home Depot and Lowes. What a bunch of supreme idiots!

Sure glad I'm sitting on the dock catching fish instead of paying some kid $50 to shovel my sidewalk, wink

Nothin' unusual here on Cape Breton Island...we are getting similar coastal weather...30cm of snow, plus ice pellets, freezing rain and temperatures ranging from 0C to -15C...typical Maritime winter.

Uh Gary, I'm confused. Even if they had been "sensationalizing" the story, how does that make them "bleeding-heart liberals"? My view is that they were only reporting what the meteorologist were telling them, disseminating public service information issued by the local governments, and trying to make sure that the public got the information necessary for their safety. If being a "bleeding-heart liberal" means being someone who cares about the well-being of other people, then I would certainly be proud to wear that label. Oh well, I guess everybody needs a scapegoat. I guess hating on 'liberals' is the trending thing right now.

Jeez, every time I start to warm up to someone........oh well. At least you and I and Bill Maher agree on one thing....religion smile.

Chas, keep in mind that I worked for the Washington Post, the Baltimore Sun, York Dispatch and a host of other publications. I saw some of the crap they dished out each day, claiming that if they erred, it was always on the side of protecting the citizens from various everythings in our society, including the possibility of disastrous weather. I just love it when they got in front of a TV camera and talked about dangerous lightning, as if there were some safe lightning somewhere in the universe. People spent fortunes preparing for every damned doomsday that was created and publicized by the media, and each time they were wrong, well you know what I mean. And, yes, we do agree on a lot more than you may think, especially religion, but that stuff goes in the bar, and rightfully so. smile

It's Five O'Clock Somewhere, bottom's up!

Nice! Out here on the bare-ass prairie we're at +5C and a skim of thin high cloud. Lovely day. Feels like Spring.

Donny, Gary's about 405 miles give or take away from we're at, it's about a 6 plus hour drive. Ironically, his home in Maryland is 100 miles closer to where I live in RI. It's a haul, we've got some things going on here with an elderly family member, plus we have to travel with 2 dogs and getting acccomdations with pets aren't always easy. Playing things by ear so to speak we'll see how things shake out in the coming weeks.

This time I must really praise the private German weather service www.wetteronline.de: Yesterday they stated they couldn't understand the extreme warnings about the blizzard, as their analysis of the weather system predicted a blizzard of a similar intensity as often before. They were correct.

Steve, it's nearly 8 hours at a high rate of speed and fuel consumption from where you are to here.

I knew it was a haul but didn't think it was 8 hours. BTW what is a high rate of speed in your van? It's about 70 in mine smile on cruise control.

Steve, keep in mind that I own a sailboat - 70 is tops for me in a car. At my age, I no longer need to get anywhere fast.

Tony, the town is jumpin right now, I'm sure we can line something up for you, and every restaurant and bar here has Happy Hour every day of the week this time of year. C'mon down! Bring a sweater, though. The temperatures at night have been in the low 60s.
