Probably not that popular with this group but I absolutely loved this guy. He was the REAL deal. In fact, I had requested that they play his 'I CAN STAND A LITTLE RAIN' at my funeral. For me anyway, a giant. I am very saddened by this. R.I.P.

For Germans it is the second sad news about the death of a musician within two days. A great musician with a really exceptional voice. R.I.P.

Yesterday, the German-language (actually Austrian) legend Udo Jürgens suddenly died. He had just had the celebration of his 80th birthday in September, appeared a lot younger and was still on tour. He suddenly broke down during a walk. He had been famous since the 1960s, maybe you have heard hits such as "Griechischer Wein" (Greek wine) or, from the 60s, "Merci Cheri". He was famous in Japan and South Africa, too, although he mostly sang in German.

I am fortunate that I saw him live a couple of years ago...
He certainly will be missed...

Saw him years ago when he was touring with Stevie Ray Vaughn. It was right before Stevie died. They were taking turns opening for the shows. It was Cocker's night to open. You didn't realize how many great songs he recorded until you heard it all live. He tore it up. Poor Stevie had to follow and the crowd was pretty burned out by that time. Now Joe is gone too. Two greats who will be missed.

"The Last Original Man" was part of his billing in the later 60's.

One of my favorite films was the tour film with Leon Russell, my favorite pop writer on guitar and keys.

A major influence on me and on pop music.

Chas, I have learned "I can Stand A Little Rain" if I ever need to play it.

Hope I don't.

Russ
