When I perform, I utilize the Tyros LCD screen to display song lyrics and chords (.txt format) as they're automatically displayed when I select songs via Registration.
I reserve my iPad + UnRealBook app for the more unfamiliar song requests, as I prefer having lyrics+chords automatically displayed when I call up a song via a single T5 registration button.

With Sunny weather here and more outdoor gigs quickly approching I'd like to utilize the Tyros 5's "VGA
display output" feature to send the display to a small non audience distracting compact 7-10" diagonal flat screen 'sunlight view able' LCD monitor
which could mount on a mic stand or better yet compatible with the K&M 18873 accessory mount for my K&M Baby Spider Pro (black) columm keyboard stand.

Here are a couple of small VGA compatible display monitors I found on Amazon:
7" LED LCD Touch Screen Sunlight Readable HDMI Monitor With Samsung LCD Panel

Lilliput 7" 619A 1080P on-Camera Field Monitor VGA/AV/HDMI/DVI Input

Does anyone here have experience with VGA compatible thin portable outdoor viewable LCD display monitors and have any recommendations and advice on what to get?

Thanks in advance.

Don, appreciate your reply and so glad to hear you're feeling better and back in the saddle again. keys

Gotta admit I'm a little surprised that nobody else here either has come across the need for an outdoor sunlight viewable LCD monitor to mirror what's displayed on our arranger keyboard's LCD screen, esp cuz I have yet to see an arranger keyboard's built in LCD screen bright enough to be 'easily' seen outdoors
in sunlight.

In the meantime, I've located (on the internet) an 8.4" VGA 800 x 600 LCD monitor that may work for me. It is rated at 1000 Nit brightness & 600:1 contrast ratio so should be easily viewable outdoors even in full sun. The only downside is the cost $539.00 and with a mere 1 year warranty. It's outside dimensions are: 8.6" x 7.5" and 1.6" thick. The advantage of getting this vs using my iPad is much brighter outdoor sunlight view ability and being able to easily see & navigate the keyboard's on screen menus plus have lyrics automatically appear instantly when selecting songs via REG.

For anyone else that's interested: Here's more information I found on Outdoor Sunlight Viewable LCD display monitors. cool

Scott question : ..... I also have my lyrics "linked" to my Registrations on my yamaha S950.......but after I call up a REG I then have to also push the lyrics button to see them? Is that what your talking about? OR, do your lyrics on your T5 pop up
"on screen" when you push a REG without the extra Lyric button push? confused1

hey Donny, cool
On my T5, When I initially call up a reg which links to the lyrics+chords to a song (.txt), it initially requires pushing the lyrics button & selecting the font size to see the lyrics, but after that one initial time, simply pushing another reg button or loading another reg bank and pressing subsequent reg buttons will continue to automatically call up and display the song lyrics +chords (including previously set font view size) associated with that reg. Works great. keys

I just want now to be able to view the keyboard's LCD screen display & Song Lyrics outdoors in bright sunlight which leads to the reason I'm looking for an outdoor viewable LCD display to mirror what's on the keyboard's screen. I find outdoor gigs here in the SF Bay Area very enjoyable as it's rarely humid (+ no bugs) & there's usually a light breeze with the fog on the bay (natural air conditioning) nearby to keep things cool. cool

Hi Scott,

To be able to view a display in bright sunlight you want to be looking for an "E Ink Display"...

Example: The Amazon Kindle DX with a 9.7" display

$129 used at Amazon

Not sure if this Kindle DX, or any Kindle "E Ink display" reader would be able to link and display your T-5 setup, but it may be worth investigating. But for sure the display you need to view in bright sunlight has to be "E Ink Display"

Good Luck My Friend smile

Larry, great to hear from you. smile How have ya been?
Thanks for your very bright & enlightened e-ink suggestion. rocker
Kindles don't include VGA input so that won't work for me but in the meantime I think I've discovered (using google search) an e-ink portable display monitor which supports VGA signal input. It's unique in that it's got a 'dual layer' display so that indoors you can set it to typical LCD back lit color display and outdoors you can switch it to monochrome e-ink display which as you said is the best option for readability outdoors in the sun. Pixel-Qi is the screen technology manufacturer and SolComputer one of the companies that includes Pixel Q's dual backlit & e-ink screens in their monitors. The monitor I'm interested in checking out is their Sol-Vision 10" $449 as it supports VGA input and suitable both indoors & outdoor full sun viewing. Also compatible as a outdoor bright sun viewable display monitor for iPads and laptops too. I look forward to learning more as this looks like something that will work great for viewing my Tyros 5's screen for navigating and viewing lyrics in full sun outdoors yet work equally well for indoor (color) display as well. Will keep you posted. Thanks again for steering me to e-ink providing maximum outdoor viewability. - Scott

Glad I could be of some help Scott,

Too bad there is no input on the Kindle, (or the Nook reader) as that would have been the ideal lower cost E Ink display.

The Sol-Vision 10" was a nice find by you, although a bit steep at $449. Most E Ink displays are in black and white, which should suit your purpose, and the dual layer with LCD and/or E Ink display is a nice setup for sure. Nice to be able to have the choice between LCD and E Ink

The videos you posted appear to show a very readable screen in sunlight, probably a good investment for those that live in Sunny California.

E Ink Customer Showcase

and

...I'm doing OK, and hope you are too... smile

I too have the screen washout problem. I have a 9" portable CRT TV that I want to use with the video output (either the composit or VGA) from my Tyros 2. However, the only input on the TV is a standard F coaxial cable connector. Is there a way to convert and connect either of the Tyros outputs to the TV?
Thanks,
Deaton

The only displays that seem to work outdoors are LED displays, preferably super-twist, which works in direct sunlight. The display on the S950 really works well outdoors, but I have not tried it in direct sunlight yet - just shade.

I found an RCA adapter ( CRF907R ) that takes the composite signal from the Tyros and sends it to the F connector (coaxial cable) of the tv.
I tried it on a 9" CRT tv and a 5" CRT portable (AC/DC) tv and both worked great. Now I can see the info on the LCD display in bright sunlight.
Thanks,
DVJ
