I was wondering if this unit had the functionality to master out to a DAT. It is my understanding, that it can save a project out to DAT, but its in some proprietary format and cannot actually be played. Does anyone know if this has been changed (could an OS update even accomidate this?). Any input would be wonderful, I am looking at possibly purchasing one, but want more information before investing in it.

You should contact roland about this one. My advice to you is to check out the optional Roland CD burner which you can buy to master and back up your data onto CD. It would be much more convenient then backing up to dat and whilst buying the CD burner is expensive, in the long run, you end up saving because a). blank CD's are much cheaper to buy than DAT tapes and b). The burner is dedicated to functioning properly with the VS. This is my advice to you. Hope this helps. Cheers.
