Written by Bob Dillon, covered by Adele, Garth Brooks and others.

https://app.box.com/s/tq5ly5juuthn1qg1ye90

Simple one track recording straight from the G70 main outs to one stereo track on Zoom R16, touch of EQ and compression in Cubase.

Can't really mess with this one not enough tracks.

Beautiful, Col! Now I'm going to have to learn that song.
Oh well, it's too cold for golf.

Hi Don

Here are the lyrics and chords.

The A7 D7 G on the end of the lines are for the words "to make you feel my love"

Regards

Col

Thanks Col, actually I immediately left the forum and started learning the song.
This process might be interesting for others.
First I listened to your wonderful version. Then I went to youtube and listened to Garth's and then Adele's version.
Then I googled the lyrics and chords, so I don't have to write them down word by word.
Garth's key (D) fits me best. I copied and pasted the lyrics with chord changes I found on www.countrytabs.com into a word processor (Open Office, it's free).
Then I opened my laptop, which is on the second tier of my keyboard stand, and copied the file from my PC.
Then I again turned on Garth's version and played along with it on the keyboard, trying to find the best style to match.
Then I turned off the Youtube song and played it on my own.
Then I returned here to check this thread and found Col's chords. There are a couple of subtle differences, but not much. I will adjust my file as needed.
Now I will play the song a few more times, adjusting voices and learning the melody.
On my next job, Thursday, I will be sure to play it a couple of times with the recorder on, then critique it on the way home through my car system. Then I'll plug headphones into the Tascam recorder and listen again. Next morning I'll listen once again, because my hearing will be different after rest, and make notes if needed on changes that will make it better. Same thing Friday night. . .
This is basically the process I use to learn every new song.
Thanks for your inspiration, Col!

Beautiful! And I love the chord changes.
If I were a singer I would no doubt include this song in my repertoire.
Col, have you tried to replace the string sound in the style with a Mmmhhh choir?
Also, what drum set did you use? The snare doesn't seem from the V-Pop set.

Very nicely done, Col ... clap

I had posted this song on S-Z a while back using the "Unplugged Ballad 2" style on the Pa600 ... to me, the key to the song is using the 'Bass Inversion' feature to provide the descending bass line ...

Don ... 'D' is the key for me as well ...

It's a Bob Dylan tune. Spent the whole summer playing this one (bass player is obsessed with Bob!). Pretty hoary changes, IMHO, but I guess that's Bob's thing. Great lyrics, not so great changes..!

Diki are the changes Col posted the same as Dylan used? The chart I found used quite a few on bass chords, indicated by slashes.
I'm not great at doing those live but this song seems to need them.

Don ... as I posted, I really think the song needs the descending bass line ... if not comfortable doing that live, make a midi file for yourself of just the background with the 'on bass' chords and play over it ...
I wish I could find the one I did a while back and post it again ...

Be careful ... those voice recognition programs sometimes make changes we do not want ... redface

Here's my wife and I singing this song, "To Make You Feel My Love," at a Valentine's Day banquet a few years ago. I use the Billy Joel version in the key of G. I play the piano for this song at our gigs as a change up from our tracks. I have a text file of the chords I use if anybody is interested.

You nailed it brother. I really loved the G-70 piano sound, very sweet. I had a G-70 and sold it but after hearing that nice piano sound I wish I'd held on to it. You did a real nice job and the recording turned out good as well. The one thing I just don't care for on most all songs posted is the harmony machines or the harmony built into the keyboard, they don't sound too bad in the mid to mid high range but when you sing in the mid low range they just don't cut it. I think it would be better to sing without the harmony box in the mid and lower range. Your voice and others I've heard sound good without the box but that's just the way I hear it. Great job.

Morning Chap's sleep

Must be doing something right, never had so much response.

Thanks' for all the kind remarks smile

Tony: Just had a quick try using the descending chords, you're right. I recorded the song in "C" but I may try again in "D" and use the descending chords.

Got a little Gig this afternoon a freebie for a group of visually impaired people, great crowd. First Gig with the G70 fingers crossed.

All the best

Col

I Fell in love with this song during "Hope Floats" .. been singing it for years, and I can honestly say ... EVERY posted version here sounds better that the HORRID version (my hero) Billy Joel does. I LOVE the guy, but he stinks up the joint with this song. Bravo to the rest of us - we're all better than Billy at at least ONE thing!!!

Colin.....you really did a great job on this number. And the G70 sounds terrific. I'm sorry I didn't buy one myself when I first played it.

Anyhow, I had a quick listen to your tune last week and moved right on to something else. But tonight I took the time to have a "long" listen to it, and I have to say I enjoyed it very much......very mellow.....very soothing. I played it a couple of times....and, yes.....love those chord changes!

I also listened to the Garth Brooks version, and, to be honest, I like yours better. I'll go with UD and skip listening to Billy Joel doing it.

Thanks for introducing me to this great song.

Mark

Thanks' a lot Mark, I am very pleased with the G70 and have no regrets about selling the Pa600 and the VLT 2. It's been a nice change after many years using Korg equipment.
