Don and I were gabbing on the telephone a few days ago about fishing, of course music came into the conversation, too. Talked about doing some more John Denver songs, and he said "You should probably do 'My Sweet Lady' - it would go well with your voice.

As usual, I listened to him (He's pretty damned smart, but I wouldn't tell him that). My wife loves the song, my daughter loves the song, so I sat down at the S-950 and gave it a try.

Here ya go! My Sweet Lady

Let me know what you think - I really do appreciate any and all constructive criticism.

Gary I think you should let Don make your song list up. He'd do a Heck of a job. Oh and you did good too.

If Don didn't already have a good job, beautiful wife and nice home in the sunny south I would bring him up here to be my agent. Like I said, he's pretty damned smart, but I would never put that in print.

Thanks for listening and commenting, Boo,

Well, if you don't TELL my wife, I could be, get ready for it,
SECRET AGENT MAN.
Seriously Gary, you work more jobs in a month than I do most of the year these days.
I enjoyed your rendition of the song. You changed it enough to "make it our own" as they say on the reality shows. Nice style on the Yamaha.

Thanks Don - I really appreciate that. And I won't tell Susan about Secret Agent Man.

Always nice to get applause from Donny, too.

Gary, I never heard that song but it does suit you quite well. In fact, I think it's one of your best vocals I heard from you. Thanks for sharing!

BTW, what style is that? It sounds real good.

I generally dislike anything John Denver ever did, but I have a regular who really likes this song. I do it for her as a straight ahead swing tine instrumental, walking bass and all. It's her all-time favorite version, she says.

Works for her, and I avoid wanting to get sick before the tune ends (LOL)!

Good job, Gary...like your arrangement and choice of style (Acoustic8BeatBld).

Singing is fine as always.

Thanks everyone. I really a lot of John Denver songs, and so does my audiences. Don has another for me to work on, which I hope to try later this evening after I come home from the second job of today. Russ, I would love to hear a swing version of this one - I'll bet you really put a great touch of jazz on it.

Cheers,

Gary cool

Gary, do you do anything by Boz Scaggs?

You could pull it off really well. I believe you have that "warmth" in your voice.

Great well known tune by Boz below. It's from the movie Urban Cowboy.

I'm BIG TIME into Boz music. Do a lot of his material at many of my venues.

Running now, but hope this is the version with the unbelievable ending by two female singers.

This is the one with the singers, Russ. I do this tune and another by him called "We're All Alone". He is an incredible writer.

"We're All Alone" was also covered by Rita Coolidge and it was a big very big hit for her. It was the version I heard first, which then brought me into looking for more of Boz Scaggs tunes.

Gary, I didn't mean to drift off topic...sorry.

It's just that I think the above tune would suit you.

I gotta go with the Cap on this one. I generally don't care for John Denver songs either.

I've always loved Annie's Song, and perform it regularly. Great chord progression with that song too.

I saw Boz live last year at the Santa Barbara Bowl. He was performing with Donald Fagan and Michael McDonald. They were all fantastic and worked so well together.

Boz's songs, aren't especially mainstream, but the hooks are very strong, and they work very well as instrumentals.

It was a rare night that someone didn't come up at one of my breaks after hearing either of the above Scaggs's pieces, and ask, "What was that tune; it sounds so familiar, yet I can't put a name on it?"

I bought the DVD of the concert (Live at Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, Aug.2003), and it gets played a lot, at least as often as "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" (Funk Brothers documentary), another gem.

Boz's "Lido Shuffle" is another great tune, too.

That must have been a great concert, Nigel...all those guys are kind of heroes to me.
