Major NYC news station actually had them lip syncing "What the Fox Said" outside on Rockafeller Center Plaza the other morning.
Its amazing what will get peoples attention. I get the idea of novelty songs but this one is just stupid.
I think their 15 minutes of fame may be about 15 seconds.

What a stupid way to get away with saying profane, mundane, idiotic mumbo jumbo. WTF say? yeah, right. Not on my stage ... not at any price for any request. Music just hit an all time low if that plays on network TV.

Definitely a great dance beat, passable melody, and weird and fairly clever lyrics and theme; lyrics are certainly no worse than:

Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang
Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang...
Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang
Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang

Not a tune I'd be interested in learning/performing as it is not my style...at least not yet. smirk

It's a double entendre, and that's all it is. Just another way to use truck driver language, and pretend it's cute.
Add that to the twerk themes, and you've got soft porn in music form.
Sigh .... I try so hard to protect my kids from this very thing.

dave listen to what these kids listen to day after day,.. ...
some of those Rap lyrics aint nursery rhymes....sex sells, money is the bottom line, trying to shield them from it makes them MORE CURIOUS to find out whats out there and then they can make their own choices for themselves. They know much more then you think,..sounds like we're gettibg old, ...lol

You are probably right Dave, but there are rap tunes with far worse lyrics/language/themes than The Fox...and no, two wrongs don't make a right, but, seriously, I didn't even get the double entendre bit until you pointed it out.

As far as the song's quality goes, it's about a "C-" if that...and not my style.

Ian,
Yup - the Hip-Hop culture is more direct and brazen, but at least the parental advisory warns parents. This little piece of fluff lets the kids run around the house singing "WTF" ... without consequence, or even conscious thought.
It's far from a deadly sin, but it sure is irresponsible. The sheer dumbness doesn't even enter into it.
Donny,
I'm already old ... but I'm getting smarter. Sex doesn't sell everything ... it's my job to monitor and censor the crap.
It's such a shame that the lyrics to most of today's biggest hits are so dark and negative. Poor kids don't have much choice, unless we give it to them. That's the main reason I'm teaching today. There's more to show biz than BUSINESS.
Kids need direction, joy and hope. I sell all three.
smile

OK, I'll for sure take a closer look at the lyrics before playing it for the kids. I never even heard of the song until yesterday when it was posted here. I didn't really pay much attention other the silly sounds and funny costumes. Then last night I was at my daughters school for a her Mexican folkloric dance groups presentation, I heard some kids singing the song.

You are right UD, it's too bad so much of the stuff out now is so dark... When I dj at her school dance for 3rd-5th graders about half the stuff I play is from "Kids Bop" which hit songs that are cleaned up

You have to stay vigilant. Even so called "clean" versions are unacceptable in most elementary settings. I'm glad you're being careful.
Well done!

I'm far from advocating for this stuff, and I share Dave's view that we dont need to "spoon feed" it to youngsters, but remember when we were kids and we listened to the "devil's music"?

No profanity-laden lyrics so much then, as it was the style of the music that grated on the older generation who said it would lead to all kinds of debauchery. And now here we are saying the same kind of thing.

Seems to me that youthful rebellion is as alive and well now as it ever was.

I agree wholeheartedly with Dave. Problem is that kids are exposed to gutter language. more often than not, by adults. People that should know better are constantly using the "F" bomb as if it were normal, everyday language. Unfortunately, vulnerable children hear this and believe there is nothing wrong with dropping the "F" bomb on the school bus, the classroom, grocery store, movies, wherever, because Daddy or Uncle Jacob says that word all the time.

A couple weeks ago, my 6-1/2-year-old grandson began dropping the MF bomb on the school bus. He got in a lot of trouble for that. When confronted by my daughter about where he learned that, he said he heard it while playing at the home of a neighbor and the neighbor's father said it. He figured it was OK because an adult said those words. NO IT'S NOT OK! It's gutter language pure and simple. I don't condone it, regardless of the source. It's not creativity or a musical art-form. And, from my perspective the only reason it is used in some songs is for it's shock value - nothing more, nothing less.

I want my grandson to grow up in an environment that does NOT condone this type of activity. I want to see him go through life without using profanity to express himself vocally. I want him to be a gentleman at all times, treat people as he would have them treat him and respect his parents and elders. I don't think that's too much to hope for.

For his abuse of language on the school bus, my grandson is now walking to school for the next two weeks. It's a 2-mile hike and he has to lug his backpack filled to capacity with books. To be safe, my daughter walks with him. She said she needs the exercise and really doesn't mind the 4-mile round trip walk twice a day. He's a big, strong kid, loves to play football, and some of the other kids on the field were yelling profanities at this Saturday's game. He asked my daughter why they were not being punished. She told him to ask the kid's parents that same question.

Donny,
Why are you stirring this pot? If we just ignore it ... it'll die away eventually. You must have something better to do ... Eagles/Dallas maybe? C'mon.

I am sure Donny had some FOX words to use during that game ...

I'm a New York sports fan so I will root for the J-E-T-S and I was thrilled that they beat the Pats today ...
Now that I am back from Italy, I expect my GIANTS to go 10 - 0 ...
