A question of curiosity...
Is it recommended to push the on/off switch behind a powered speaker, or leaving it on and turn the power on/off from the main wall outlet?
Just so happens the placement of the speakers is a little inconvenient to get to the on/off switch...

Makes no difference at all, but be sure to turn the power all the way down before turning on AND off.

If you have a dedicated wall switch that turns off the power, this is fine. Just pulling out the plug, though, is not a good idea. While you can get away with just pulling the plug most of the time, there are times when the connection may not be perfect while the plug is sliding off the receptacle contacts, which can result in arcing at the plug and minor power surges - not a good thing. A dedicated switch, however, has special, internal latches, which prevent arcing, which prevents this type of surge from occurring.

Turning the volume down all the way will prevent that loud popping sound from occurring, but it will NOT protect the amp's circuitry from surges caused by arcing. It just makes the destruction of the circuit a bit quieter when taking place.

I use a circuit breaker (surge protected) power bar with an on/off switch, and plug my two MS60S powered speakers and Tyros4 into it. I then leave them all switched on, with volumes at playing level, and power them up using the switch on the power bar. No issues whatsoever in the many years I've been setting up this way, and no popping noises.

Yes... I'd say, if you can't get to the power switches on the speakers, use the power switch on the strip. Just pulling the plug out the wall is not recommended.

I switch off from speakers..

We have so many momentary power outages here I went to using PC battery powered backup units for most of my equipment. I did that because my Tyros keyboards would loose all the work i was doing same as my PC.

I even did this with my DirecTV receiver because it would take it up to 20 minutes to reload the operating system - never loose it now.

Trouble is, you need a HUGE UPS to keep powered speakers up until the power comes back...

They are OK for little built-in speakers (although battery life will be shorter than no speakers), but bigger powered ones (unless little computer monitors) draw too much power for most UPS's.

The way I have it set up is its going through a surge protector board with a remote control such that power is cut off from the board with the convenience of a press of a button. thanks all for the discussions and reassurance...
