I had some time to window shop at Guitar center a few days ago..A friend was checking out sub woofers with his Hammond SK1..

Comparing the Yamaha 15 inch DXR sub offer to the QSC 2-12 inch sub woofer and a Mackie ( I think it was a 15"), sub woofer..

The Yamaha impressed me with a tight bass (with clarity)..not quite the thump in your chest like "real" sub woofers of yesteryear..almost like a Bass amp than a sub..

The Yamaha sell for $800..The QSC $1,200..and the Mackie...doesn't matter..it was outclassed by both QSC and Yamaha..

I preferred The Yamaha over the QSC..maybe I just like a 15"..The QSC did sound okay, but there is something that I didn't like..I think maybe bass amps pretending to be sub woofers..could be my concern..
I think the frequency range is too broad to be called a sub..45-48 is not sub range to me, and they seem to go as high as 90..I have full range 15's that are lower..
Yamaha 's DSR line of 8,10,12, 15's seem more than able to compete with QSC..What bugs me..the same with QSC , Mackie, Podium, and all the other brands..Yamaha is made in China...I understand the DXR is made in Viet Nam..

Yamaha DSR has no 8 or 10" speakers. You are probably thinking about DXR.Yamaha DSR are way above DXR speakers with better built, better components inside, higher amps inside and much better sounding than any of these you listed above.

I just used 2 DXR10 speakers with an EV SbA760 15" sub. Covered the dance floor extremely well. We played mp3s, sequences from the Yamaha Motif ES, and sang (male and female voice) through the night.

The EV sub works well for my duo. It has built in wheels and only takes a small footprint. We used a 12" DXS last summer. It did a nice job. It was lighter weight than my EV but was awkward to carry and transport in and out of the gig.

If I were ever to replace my EV SbA760, I would seriously consider the QSC KW181. It's about the same weight as my EV with more wattage and an 18"... That should do the trick of me feeling it in my chest!!

When it comes to moving the gear, it's only me... No roadie. Moving it in and out of the van with the most efficiency is crucial.

It looks to me that you are pretty rugged. That's a good thing.

I've been selling the DXR line like crazy, it comes in about $100 -$300 less than the QSC with a better warranty and I believe a tad bit better in the overall sound.

the DSR18 sub paired with the dxr 10's or 12's are a amazing package that I have used to do sound for full rock and dance bands.

I have been using the DXR 12 and the 15 DSR subs for about a year it is a pretty good system I use the system for outside concerts
I do feel the QSC system has a better sound but the yamaha is very good .

Which 12" tops are you using, leezone? The K12 ABS plastic box or the KW122 wood box?

I am seriously looking at upgrading to 2 KW122 tops and 2 KW181 subs. Then I'll start renting my sound system and myself to make a few more bucks on the side.

As far as the QSC is concerned, the HPR series do sound better than the KW series. Not sure if it's because of ...
A. The wooden (HPR) closure or
B. The Digital Class C amplification (KW) ...

The only problem with the HPR is ... it's weight!

As for the Yamaha's, DSRs come out on top ...

At my DJ gig yesterday the Yamaha DXR 12" Speakers sounded really impressive they easily covered this large room.
Tight Bass & Crisp Highs,...when used with my S950 it sounds simply AMAZING also! keys headphone
