I just bought a used(circa 2005) Dell XPS 600 for my wife. I can use a cable to go to my wireless router, but she is in another room. I tried to configure a LAN connection, but it gives me no wireless option.

If I buy a pci card or USB network card, should it detect my wireless network like my laptops do ?

Sorry to intrude with an OT, but this forum is like family after almost fifteen years.

Hell Bernie,

A Dell XPS 600 runs on propane (bottled gas) having an 8 year old PC is like going out with a women of 100.. computer If you buy a pci card or USB network card you might be able to speak to someone on Mars rotf2

A USB network adapter should do the trick.

Bernie

I have a 1998 Compaq tower that originally came with (obviously) Windows 98. Several years ago, I upgraded it with a larger hard drive and a copy of Windows XP SP2 that had come with a, now defunct, Compaq laptop. A couple of weeks ago, in order to help a forum friend with an XP problem, I brought it down, dusted it off, and connected a Belkin N750DB wireless USB adapter I got at Walmart. To my surprise, the drivers loaded and it came up to the LinkSys wireless router just fine. Even the speed was pretty decent, and the USB ports on that old Compaq are 1.1, not 2.0. If you are going to spend any money on this endeavor, I recommend Walmart because of their no questions asked return policy if anything doesn't work the way you planned.

Good luck !
